When I defoliate my plants, I stand elevated so I can look down on top of the canopy and any leaf that shades a flower site below it comes off. I have never had a plant hurt me because of stripping the fan leaves. I am pretty aggressive when it comes to stripping my plants down, but I found it works for me, and I have no ill affects.

I do what boo does and look at the plant from the top and anything in the way of a budsite below I take off. It is amazing how many will grow back in the next few days and how much better your canopy will look. I defoliate every time I check them everyday. Mr Sub is still not use to all the trash cans in my house covered in reefer leaves and says something to me about it everyday.

Couple weeks before harvesting i take all my leaves off and leave just buds and small sugar leaves. Seems to make my buds swell up more.

I trim them off all the time if they are in the way of my buds getting sun

the buds dont need the sun...... until they start ripening...... i keep the fans on as long as I can they provide the energy for the plant....... there might be an argument for some trimming if growing out doors and humidity control to keep mold down..... but if inside in a controlled enviroment then keep them on JMO

I knew a Rastafarian who after his buds were growing good ( couple weeks before harvest)he trimmed all his leaves off but the smaller sugar leaves.
He grew huge colas like that.
He said the buds themselves once growing good takes in all the light energy it needs to produce big buds.

I pretty much do that as well. I did it with my maui beast this morning.

I've done it about 3 weeks before harvest and it worked great. And I didn't have to trim as much when I harvested.

Yes I will sometime pluck a few before harvest. I wont need many though
