taking apart lights?

I found these lights on the internet they are 250W MH and only $25 each. Can I seperate the baliest and fixture so that i can hang the light below the tops of my plants and run it wide open. I want to hang like four of them and my 400W MH over the top. i am only flowering six plants . Not sure too much about these lights but just curious if anyone has any info on this.

Also if i had a fixture i was going to make a hood that is rectangle or square made out of sheet metal would you suggest to run the bulb horizontal or vertical for maximum use of light for six plants?

There are some HD lights that are meant to be run only horizontally or only vertically. Since these are some kind of stadium or parking lot lights, make sure that they can be run opposite from what they are before building reflectors that may not work.
