It’s a good time to start again. For me the controllers really take a lot of the guesswork out. Almost everything in my grow I control

The new Ai controllers seem to be the bomb but I won’t be getting one as I now know how to program the ones I have.

In a year or so they will have a full time monitoring system for hydro that will make us all obsolete. Not only will it monitor it adds nutes as it goes. You just put a straw in each of the containers and it sips

That new AI Controller appears to have everything figured out. It’s unbelievable technology, but I’m not ready to chase that level of automation yet. I’d like to understand and build my own program using automations so that I understand how it’s running instead of having AI figure out how to do it 100x better. Haha. The smart functions on the fan control alone is keeping my VPD at a consistent 1.2 during the day and 1.0 at night….good enough for me for now.

@KGB, time lapse sounds very interesting. I’d consider purchasing except I just blew my last 20 bucks on a ph meter. Haha. I’m actually really curious about the ph at my root zone considering the fact I keep the reservoirs between 5.8-6.1.

I admit I was skeptical but in the AC Infinity FB page there are people singing praises on how much it locks in just using the seedling selection.

But for me I would rather set it up myself regardless. I have to know how it works which allows me to make a plan in case it quits to continue the grow. The people buying that controller won’t learn spit about growing but many have black thumbs when it comes to plants I think.

It’s been a while since my last update. Fed the plants today and noticed some little bugs living in my reservoir. I’ll set aside a few hours tomorrow to rinse and bleach all equipment. The rest of the plants have some old leaf damage that doesn’t appear to be getting worse. I just need to finish this grow.

Looks like thrip nymphs to me.
Dealing with them myself at the moment.
Get a flashlight, turn it on and point it towards the soil and run your hand across the soil. Watch for gnat sized flys.

Also check the tops and bottoms of the leaves. The channel on top of the leaf stems house them occasionally as well.... when eating stems the plants won't look like anything is wrong. Compared to leaf damage from mining nymphs.

Looks like a spingtail to me. If so you won't see them on the leaves and they are harmless. Also possible they are mosquito larva.

Them almost look like a mosquito larvae. Is that water stagnant?
I've not seen this before.

Mosquitos usually grow up under the surface of stagnant water. Usually don't crawl around on surfaces unless the water evaporated and left them behind to die.

Thrip nymphs look like miniature maggots.
They will crawl around on plant surfaces or in another moist location. In this case a section of the reservoir. Wiggling and chomping away at their food source.

Looks like a spingtail to me. If so you won't see them on the leaves and they are harmless. Also possible they are mosquito larva.

Springtails are also a possibility. But they aren't completely harmless. They arent dangerous but can still cause issues with the quality of the finished product.

I am not seeing any leaf damage or bug presence looking at the leaves. I sprayed the plants with Captain Jacks to play it safe. I added one drop of bleach to the 1.3 gallon reservoirs and it appears to have killed everything that was swimming around on the surface. I then added 15ml of 3% hydrogen peroxide to the reservoir. I’ll do a thorough clean tomorrow by removing the reservoirs, spraying with a bleach solution, then filling with fresh nutrients.

Hopefully I caught the entire infestation at an early stage. This is my first indoor bug issue except for the occasional fungus gnat when I grew in soil.

Thank you to everyone for the ideas. I was at a loss today.

Good idea to save a specimen except that I just flushed all three reservoirs (dumped them down a toilet), sprayed all reservoirs and buckets with bleach. They sure do look like the springtails though. My new solution has 15ml of hydrogen peroxide per gallon. That might prevent a reoccurrence. I needed to correct this asap.

Always run air stones. They are cheap and can be bought at Walmart if you're in a pinch. Just look through the aquarium section in the pets department. You can get a pump, tubing, and stone for under $20.

They’re drinking about 1/2 gallon of nutrient water per day, so the wicks and coco are still working. I forgot to water them yesterday, so each 1.3 gallon reservoir took a gallon of water and was pretty low. Didn’t expect to see the critters swimming around though. I have no idea how these creatures found their way into the tent.

The nymphs are all gone for now. I think I will clean and bleach these reservoirs weekly until my harvest. Four weeks to go!

Thanks! I didn’t think airstones would do much for the plant since the water is wicked to the roots through wicks and coco. I just ordered an air pump and airstones for delivery tomorrow. I’ll get that set up by Christmas.

No problem. I love doing research. All it does is increase my knowledge of the hobby.
