Start up and types of lights

We are debating on which lights to use in the beginning...

We were told about a jump start kit or maybe a T5 light with 4-8 bulbs.

This is for an indoor room in the basement.

Any advice would ROCK!

Yeah, T5 is the best for vegging your plants. Make sure you determine how big a space you want to use for vegging and then get the lighting to match the space(not so much the number of plants). If you have a space that is 2'x4' then you need to have enough light to produce at least 24,000 lumens. (vegging requires a minimum of 3000 lumens per square foot of grow area) The 4' T5 will produce 5000 lumens per (6500k grow)bulb. So in a 2x4 area, a single fixture with 6 bulbs in the 6500k spectrum would veg plants nicely.
