I have a 175 watt hydrofarm sunburst series light...when I went into my growroom to check on everything i found that my light was not putting out light like it should..it was a very dim glow.
I think my ballast is dying...am I right?

Sound more like the bulb is dying to me, usually when the ballast goes the bulb has no power to light up at all.

Is it possible for some reason it had just fired up? Did it get progressively brighter?

hi guys ty for responding so fast...gotta love this site and all the great folks here cheers
the bulb i had in it was working at 2 pm but when i went in to check the ph at 9 pm it was out.
I let the light cool off and changed the bulb with 1 i know works fine...it's not getting any brighter at all.
I have no idea what's going on..all i can think is that my ballast is on it's way out but really not sure..ty for the help

If you put a new bulb in it must be your ballast, unless you have electrical issues . I'm leaning more towards the ballast tho. Good luck and grow safe:D

Bad capasitor? Open the ballast up and see if capasitor is bulging like a frozen soda. If it is buy a new one at hydro store and replace.Sorry about the spelling

howdy all

Howdy all
here's an update on my lighting problem...I got my new ballast installed and it works great...I also tested the 2 bulbs I have and they both work so it was either the ballast or the capacitor i'm not sure which was bad but since my new ballast came with a new capacitor i changed them both...so to make a long story short...if you have the problem i had my best guess would be to say replace the ballast and capacitor and you'll be good to go...ty for the help
