Hello all.

First grow, (well first grow all died at sprout) second grow, friends bagseed in basement.

11 plants 2 weeks old yesterday and when I went down to check on em last night I could smell them! Basement is about 10x10x6 73 degrees 55% humidity, box fan comes on 3 times a day for an hour each time, no ventilation to outside yet.

I mean open the basement door and wooof there it is.

I knew this is something I was going to have to deal with but I didnt think it would be a problem with them only 3 inches tall!

My question is, is this normal? To be able to smell them in the grow room at this age, and I am thinking if I can smell them now... I am thinking of the cap1 ozn ozon generator, have been planning on it just didnt expect to smell anything untill closer to flower, I was wrong.

As I said I am new.

I own my home and am legal to grow 15 plants so its not a major issue, but Im still not putting a sign in my front yard either, I do live in town.

Plants are of uknown decent (is that right?) I would say definatly indica domanint as they have very short fat leaves.

Friend didnt know much other than it came from Canada and kicked ***.

Anyway any info would be appreciated as far as do you normally smell them this small and how much if any, worse it might get.

Thank you,
Sammy

it is common for some to smell in the veg state, and yes they will probably get much worse in flowering. If you don't have them in an inclosed area in your basement, where you can hook up a filter I would suggest an ozone generator. I have not personally used one ( I use can filters in my "inclosed" rooms ventilation system) so I can't tell you from experience how well they work, but I have read that they do work. Hopefully someone with experience with them will come on soon. I have experience using an odor masking gel, because sometimes even the can filters don't get 100% of the funk out. Ona Gel works great to mask odors, just open the jar and your basement will smell like fresh linen....mixed with a slight who stepped on the skunk smell. Good Luck!

:yeahthat:

Well said.

I too am legal for plants, but live in an environment where it would be better not to smell anything. I used carbon, and still do to some degree, for years... in fact i used a carbon filter in a carbon filter, the output from one filter into an enclosed area and extracted into yet another carbon filter to decrease the odour, because of the 'who stepped on a skunk' residual LF mentioned. This still remains in one of my rooms(my mom room) because it's only 4x4, but then in my main room than houses my clones, and vegging clones and has a more limited venting system, i switched to ozone... NO ODOUR. NONE. I suggest you make one, if you are handy, way cheeper than buying one. Just google DYI ozone makers... and find someone with a throw away neon sign and yank the transformer out of it to make one with.

Good luck.

The odor is absolutely normal, it will vary by strain but all will end up producing a healthy marijuana smell.

I have never used anything but an ozone generator to rid the smell. It is extremely efficient at eliminating

any and all odors. Word of caution though…ozone is harmful to any carbon life form, this means you, your plants,

bacteria, fungus, etc. It may be a good idea to get a test kit to keep your ppm levels below 0.05 as this is the

toxicity level for humans. GL to ya!

Thank you for the quick replies.

Trust, what type of kit should I look for to check the amount of ozone I am producing?

Thanks again

When I bought my ozone generator years ago it came with a testing kit...The company was Eco-Badge.

Here is a link:

hxxp://www.negativeiongenerators.com/ozonedetector.html

^^^replace xx with tt :D

This won't give you the ppm's but will give you a safe environment.

I know the ppm testing equipment is expensive however if you use the card right you will start to be able to judge by the smell how much ozone is acceptable.

Again word of caution: please use extreme care when subjecting yourself to ozone.

Be Safe!
