Has anyone out there used silica beads to dry there mj? ive read about it but never heard or met someone who has done it, tried it or uses it.

Silica (Desiccant) is great to use to keep your bud dry inside a jar, but its no good for drying a fresh harvested plant.

i never thought it would... ive read stories on the net bout peeps drying bud in 3-4 days usin silica beads. i wondered if it would wrk or if the smoke would be good... thanx a million hippy.

im thinkin it would work to do just that, dry ya buds. but its gonna dry more quikly than if done the suggested way. and you'll probly end wit funky tastin buds or really greeny like almost hay like taste. lol i tried this last year in a babyfod jar wit few them packets in it and it worked without the mold showin an it was pretty much fresh still but hung couple days maybe. but it burned all weird an smelled almost tasted too like lawn clippings lol.
i use three huge silica packets from a big screen tv that were in the box an broke em open and put like inch or so the bead things in jar on botom of it. and bud was lil dry already on outside it.

from what ive read or seen about it is a small rubbermade container bottom has silica beads small fan on the side air out and a screen shelf in the middle with your weed ..... and i do beleive this was done to dry quick and large amounts to get ready to cure. but im am one who hates the taste of ditch weed "hay tasting" i hang mine 3-4 days in the dark in a cooler well vented area. then from there i go to paper bags but the last time i did this the taste was what one would call hayish i guess.. how do i keep it as potent as it is when i cut it down?

yeah man, i really think it has somethin to do wit the length of time involved i your curing method that determines the aroma an flavor 100%. i mean if you could prolong curing over a year without gettinmold or rottin i bet it'd be some pristine smellin and tasti smoke man.
somethin to do with the clorophyl and how it is released or how fast and moisture bla blah i dont recall for sure exact but i know it somethin like that . sorrrry. i been up over 24hrs all wired on monsters an smokin qwizzo all nite until now lol. just got back from cruisin the local lumberyard wit a friend and found a gold mine for soil mix stuff so i did lil shoppin for my upcomin grow soil mix finally.

It's all in the curing .... I just use the same method that's well noted on MP and get great results. When I think of the stupid things I used to do years ago ... like, I would lay out about a pound of leaves and buds all mixed (I had no idea) and spray brandy over it, then put it in a big plastic bag in the sun to ferment! Then I'd dry it and smoke it. I thought that was "curing"!

Well it gets worse actually ... you realise this is many many years ago ... the first time I tried a grow I used bagseed. Yeah it was from a bag of seed. With a picture of a bird on the front.

I have not used it to dry MJ, but I have used it to dry flowers. It dries them SO quickly that the color is retained, making it great for flowers...but not so great for MJ. I hate the taste and look of green weed. The slow dry adds a LOT to the taste, smell and burn, so I think using silica would prob not be a good idea. Then again, Ive never done it, so this is conjecture.

same principal that applies and why mj tastes all funky when usin silica. it dries so quikly that there no time for the clorophyl to disappate either.

it makes sense. and im glad to not have wasted time and weed on it..
