Just wanted to say hi to everyone and introduce myself. Soon be 60 years of age, but have had several medical issues with a 14 day stay in the Hospital of late. Never a day without severe pain. Lymes, Diabetes and nerve damage. Oh, forgot the back issues and arthritis. Taking about 14 pills a day, with no relief at all. My son introduced me to article about CBD oil.

My last time with Cannabis was in 1974. Don’t smoke or drink and am having trouble with the CBD issue. However, I have to find some relief. Just been on the fast track of dying since the **** and death of my teenage daughter. Just can’t get by a day without many tears and deep depression. Just got a new Laptop and been doing some studying on medical Cannabis.

With all the medical costs and on long term disability, just about depleted the savings. What a way to go out after 41 years of work. Need help on the most economical way to get started. Everything is so expensive, from seeds to lights. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, 8ThFlightOut.

Welcome to the site I'm also a newbie sorry to hear of all that stuff wish you the best of luck! You've come to the right place for answers lot of knowledgable folks here with tons of experience in all the facets of growing. My experience on indoor growing is limited but growing. Someone will come along and get ya straightened out for sure. Best wishes for you.

Well hi 8Th, welcome to MP. I am glad you found us. You can be helped so much with marijuana you will be shocked. For one thing it works on your pancreas and your blood sugars should improve in 3 months. Especially if you can get on some oil. If you take diabetes out of the mix...your fourteen pills will be less and so will the pain.

I can't begin to tell you how sorry I am for what you have gone through. The loss of your daughter is beyond understanding. You have every reason to be depressed, but you can start the road to getting better soon.

Thanks for reaching out.

That's a heavy load brother. My condolences. Three things that might help....dirt is the cheapest way to go, nutes don't need to be expensive (GH Grow, Micro , Bloom ) Feed once every third watering. You can find used HID lighting, or check the net for DIY lighting. I started out completely ready to grow under $50. (was a long time ago, but I see articles and youtube vid's all the time on cheap but effective set-ups.)
Do your homework, learn what the plant needs and why before getting started. Local laws? There is a bunch to think about before starting a grow, we are all here to help you in anyway we can....and never forget it's a weed...just a weed, and it's really hard to kill.

Wow, you`ve got a lot on your shoulders there. Be as strong as you`ve been and you will get through it. Any way we can help, just ask. You are not alone, my hunting partner`s step daughter, who he raised, was beat to death with a baseball bat. This was over a $300 drug debt. Another guy I know, his son was run over and killed over drugs. All crack related. Can`t help but think back to when I was that age. Times have changed, people have changed. Long live Cannabis. Have been a daily user since the summer of `68, user since`64.

Gaint, Rosebud, Kravenhead and Yooper420,
Thanks so much for your kind words and thoughts. I will give my best to make it through this life. My primary care doctor tried to treat me for depression for years, but the drugs he gave me caused major nightmares and caused me to talk out of my head. Just couldn’t take them. Shortly after my last 14 day stay in the Hospital (Kidney failure, blood infection and Lymes), my primary care physician insisted on me seeing an L.P.C.C-S and a Psychiatrist. I did and after placing me on two drugs (Remeron and Lexapro) the nightmares and terrible thoughts returned. Couldn’t stand the meds. Had to go off. They also know my kidneys are very poor due to the Diabetes and multiple meds throughout the years, but they still insist the answer is in the Pharmaceuticals.

Tomorrow I go to my Neurologist for an EMG and NCS to see what extent the Diabetes have had on my nerve cells. I can just see it now, more meds. Isn’t it insane?, its ok for all these poisonous meds, but my state won’t allow CBD Cannabis. Unbelievable!

I'll keep on keeping on my friends. Please remember me in your thoughts and prayers. Need all the help I can. Your friend, 8ThFlightOut.

Welcome to MP. If you are interested in growing, we can help you.

I understand living on a budget, but there are certain "minimum requirements" that you kind of need to be able to meet or growing cannabis can be a 4 month exercise in futility and disappointment. Can you let us know what kind of budget you have to work with? Will you have funds so that you could add to your equipment as the plant's needs grow? Vegetative growth gives you a lot more leeway than when it comes to flowering.

You said in your opening post that you are "having trouble with the CBD issue". I do not understand what you mean by that?

Yooper....I'm sorry to hear about that. Those are horrible things.

Hi Hemp Goddess,
Thanks for your reply and concern. What I meant about the trouble with the Cannabis things goes back to my religion and a state that preaches that all evils come from MJ. I know the Lord wants me to have clear mental thoughts, but the meds from the Psychiatrist had me out of my head until I had enough of that garbage. But that is OK by the state and society.

One person on a forum asks why I am called 8ThFlightOut. The old saying is that a cat has nine lives. I have had eight major medical diseases. I call them my 8FlightOuts. They almost took my life. I have one left. A person just knows these things. The next one is when I meet my precious Lord and my beautiful daughter. I know this in my soul. I made my peace with the Good Lord in 1982. Just haven’t received any answers from Him on why these things have happened. Oh how I have fasted without food or water and prayed for many days and nights on end seeking for help and answers.

Perhaps He did give an answer in this case. I did meet a specialist from the Cleveland Clinic that stated that when you go through such trauma, your enzymes or something along the DNA chain go haywire. They start a lethal reaction that brings on diseases. From the day of my beautiful daughter’s **** and death, it’s like being on a fast track of dying. What a monster would do such harm to a precious innocent child and the collateral damage to the ones left behind? He’s even out of prison now!

As for the finances, I have such a stack of bills on my end table that I stopped opening them until I work up courage. After my stay in the Hospital and 6 follow-up visits to my primary care and three with the Neurologist, at the insistence of my doc, I am now seeing a Psychologist every week and the Psychiatrist every three weeks. They are treating me for severe depression and PTSD, or so they say. Now it's a new year, the first $1,500.00 has to be paid by me first. Well heck, I still owe a small fortune from 2014!

I want to grow in organic soil. The next door neighbor has turkeys and horses and he said I could have all the fertilizer that I would want (for the lawn). I purchased a small used 4'X4' grow tent so I have that. I purchased two cheap (China) 400W LEDs, but after about six months they went bad. They were shipped from China so this was a $400.00 loss cause. They wouldn’t even return my calls. I had 6 Char Webs growing and 6 Cannatonics ($300.00 for the seeds). Due to the lights failing, half the plants died, two turned out to be both sexes and two were males. I do have two female plants, but they are stunted. Don’t know if they will mature or not. I just jumped into a mess without studying like I should have. I was so sick though; I wouldn’t even get on the Web. Hard lesson to learn,

My goal now is to get a good used American made 400W LED light and to come up with more seeds (high CBD). I still have one of the males left. Do you think that would pollinate the females if they make it and produce seeds? I just can’t afford to pay $150.00 for 6 seeds per pack again.

Didn’t mean to write a book again. Talking about these things is so difficult and embarrassing for me. I apologize to all. I don’t know enough about the forum to tell if I am responding privately or to the thread. Nevertheless, Thanks so much Hemp Goddess and to all who have responded in kindness. Any advice is still greatly appreciated! God Bless my friends and Peace to all.

By the way, how do you spell check on this thing? I am a terrible speller.

Well, you really do not need to talk about them here, especially if you are uncomfortable doing so. I am not much to "share my problems" with others, so I understand being uncomfortable talking about personal stuff. We are here to help you grow. So, that is really all we need to focus on here, if you are comfortable with that.

A 400W is not going to be enough light for a 4 x 4 tent. You will need at least a 600W and most people run more. Quality seeds do not have to be that expensive. You should be able to find something good for $50-75. However, first and foremost, you need to do some studying. No one can really grow this great plant by the seat of their pants. Cannabis is an amazing plant, but it does require a lot to take it the 4 or so months that is required to bring it to harvest. So, try and read up some so you understand the life cycle of cannabis and what it needs to grow--soil requirements, light requirements, ventilation, nutrients, how pH and ppms affect the plant, correct humidity and temps. There really is a lot to learn.

Organic is tougher in some ways than soil grows with synthetic nutrients, but in some ways it is easier. While your plants cannot live on manure alone, aged manure is a great source of nutrients and can be used to make teas. If interested in organics, that opens up a whole new line of study.

Try and get your head around the fact that just because a leader expressed distain for cannabis does not mean that it is true. Please try and get all the facts before you make your decisions. Putting cannabis in the same category as drink and tobacco is a mistake. Just because you have never smoked tobacco or drank alcohol does not mean that you should not avail yourself to the benefits of cannabis. Do you believe that the states that have legalized cannabis have made a mistake? Can you justify in your own mind the differences between what you have heard and what is actually true? I have seen the benefits of cannabis in a variety of illnesses with my own eyes. There is actual scientific evidence that shows it can control seizures in children with little to no side effects...how can that not be a wondrous wonderful thing? It is showing signs that it may reduce the incidents of cancer and/or reduce the size of tumors...how can that be bad? It helps chemo patients and AIDs victims eat and sleep....how can that be wrong? And all this without the nasty side effect that the pharmaceuticals have....so what are the real downsides to cannabis use?
