about how the site was set up before ...

I miss the "Thank You" button.

I will give as many "Thank You"s as possible if we can get that back :D

Agreed. I think that's part of the interaction we're missing with each other. Letting our friends know we're there, interested in what they have to say, without having to post in every thread we read.

i agree. i mean we can still give rep but who really looks at the user cp to see who left rep, plus not everyone leaves a name when they use the rep feature.

I mentioned this in another thread, but I'll repeat it here for those who didn't see it.

I own two vBulletin 4.x sites. I receive coding errors daily that are directly related to the "Thanks" hack.

When there are as many people using a hack as there are here, those errors would multiply in both quantity and severity as a result of the error coding within vBulletin. On a site this large, those errors could potentially cause another crash if not rectified first.

If I discover a fix for the errors, or the person who wrote the coding fixes them and posts an update, I'll let MarP know and see if he wants to try it again then.

I seriously doubt he'll try it in it's current version. Way too many problems.

If MarP includes it in this version of vBulletin, it'll embed some coding in the base scripts that isn't removed when upgraded to vBulletin 4.x

That again would cause problems. I think he's being wise to just leave it out and let the working coding be as it is.

I miss the ignore button most. Cause some idiots should have been banned, but aint.

Dont care for the Thanks button to much. I get stoned, I get soft. And if I was thanking one, usually would go down the entire page and thank everyone else lol.
Im just to dang nice, and enjoy you morons too dang much not to I guess. :)

Agreed, lets all try and put our names when leaving rep for another member.

You can still ignore. If you go to the persons profile then there is the option to add to buddy list or block. If you block it will just say the members name and no post.

It would be nice when people give rep that they leave there name in the comment box. Never know who is giving me rep. Also thanks button used to make it much easier. My rep bar has not recovered since the crash.

yup.. the server issue was diagnosed as a direct result of the thank you hack..
It was a nice convenience, but "I" don't look forward to having it back, with the issues it causes.

One GJ was enough to loose, I would like to keep my current GJ so i second that

I miss the thanks button as well but like the fact that it being gone allows me to use the rep button....when the thanks button was here I cld never leave rep because it always said I already gave too much thanks for the day. And I always sign my rep comments....

yes the thanks button will be missed but like others have said, i would rather the site run smooth than have a thanks button

I have to say, first of all, that I am pretty computer ignorant, but why in the world can't they make a "thanks" function that does not cause problems? It seems like such a simple thing.....

To answer you as briefly as possible, the folks who own vBulletin keep altering their code that runs the hundreds of "tiny applications" within it. They don't really care what third party software problems it causes. The "Thanks" button is a 3rd party software which is available to add to your copy of vBulletin if you like. Almost all 3rd party apps include disclaimers that release them of any fault when your site crashes. It's up to an owner if they wish to accept that risk.

Now more directly, the owners of vBulletin COULD write their own "thanks" button into thier script but other then the "Rep" icon, that's the only one they include. It works great. It has options to add this many points or that many based on this or that.... The icon can be changed and moved. All of this within the vBulletin software itself as an option. Its time consuming and takes much, much time if you don't hire someone who specializes in that software. Then it's only expensive.

There ya go. That's as short as I could say it. I hope I answered you good enough.

Yada yada...

but howcum it just don't know? :confused2:   :p

The Thank You button just made me lazy. It was nice to aknowledge posts, but now that I look at it, a written thank you is more meaningful.

(haha, my mom always wished I'd hand write Thank You notes after receiving anything. I do maybe only 1/2 the time :p)

STONEY you are da' man! I think you're next in line for a promotion.

Since the thanks button is a no go, and the chat box obviously must have a similar scripting issue. (I'm trying to use the big vocabulary, correct me if I'm worng.) I miss...

Puffinafatty, for putting up with all my newbie ** in the chat box. Wonder if he's still revegging that sweet ol' cinderella.
