Hi vtx. welcome to MP. I hope you enjoy your stay. Someone that knows about hydro will be along to help you out. I grow in dirt..

I completely change out my rez every 7 to days.

When small and in veg I do it about every 10 days.

Once they get some size to them I change the rez out every 7 days and just top off with r/o water in between

IMO i think rez changing is up to the grower i know many Hydro growers that never change there rez and what they told me is why work harder lol by rez changing and total cleaning out of the rez much easier to just top up with ph's water and nutes
As long as your rez gets no light no algae will form and . Whether or not to change out the water during a grow, seems to be grower preference. Unless there's a problem, its not a 'have to just keep checking ph and ppm soon you will know how much ppm plants take in a week as well as water make up a batch every few days of the difference plants took and your laughing

IMO only time you should do a rez change is when a problem starts occuring make sure prior to start up all components are sanitized flushed and working then add your plants let her buck i think many growers bring in problems by rez changing and bringing in pathogens if its not broke dont touch it

The trouble is that if you do not know if "it is broken" if you never check and clean the res. Virtually all chemical nutrients are going to give you some salt buildups, making cleaning of the res necessary. In addition, plants do not uptake nutes evenly. When you do not empty your res and just add it it, you really have no idea what is in the nutrient solution that is left in the bottom of the res. I also think you invite problems if you do not clean out your res periodically.
