Need help starting out

Hey guys.
Im coming to the end on my Alevels and have decided not to go to uni, thus staying at home and doing a degree. I am looking to start a setup for growing pot. I am thinking of growing it on one of my shelfs. This will be achived by using 2 other plants as a divertion to my parents, so they do not suppect me growing weed. lol.
My main question is what light i should use, and i am looking for a cheap option of around £60 for the lights. i will be hanging the light from the above shelf. As i am a newb to this i was wondering aswel which seed to use as i need a simple and easy strain for my first attempt.

A main problem i have is, i kinda dont want my plant growing more than 6-8inch making it less obvious to what plant it is, as this will be on show on my slef.

Please post a reply on these main problems i have; which lights to use for growth and flowering, how to keep the plant small, which seed should i get for a newcomer?

Never a good thing growing in your parents house! Not sure what the laws are where your from, in the US, the parents can lose their house having their kid grow in their house!!

ok guys. Looks like ill have to wait untill i get a place of my own =S
Unless anyone got space in their house for a student? lol.
Ill even fly to and live in america if there is a vacancy =P
