I have a 5' tall female plant in my back yard. Is there anything I can do to make it bud? I live in Texas so is the heat causing in not to bud?

The only thing that will make it bud is less light

id say you got a ways to go yet before she starts flowerin. your at mother naures mercy now as far as lightin an when she decides shes gonna getthe liting closer to 12/12 as close as possible that willl trigger her and you'll see results.

yousay she 5 ft now.!! wow man. just wait til she starts to stretch durin the beginnin of flower. :)
you got any pix ? i'd love to see this bahemoth.

It will not bud untill the days start to shorten. She is still receiving too much light and is in vegetative growth stage. Not much you can do, unless you want to some how rig something up that would block out the light to simulate 12 hours light and 12 hours of darkness. I would not reccomend it though, let nature run her course. If you are worried about height you may want to read up on LST or on topping. Keep in mind she is going to stretch even taller when the days do begin to shorten.

What like cover it with something like a tent that will just hang over it with out actually touching the plant?

I would just let mother nature do her thing.

You would have to have a tent/ cover that was completely light proof and easy to remove daily and at the same time.

You are at the mercy of mother nature my friend.

The good thing is you have a good few month too do some reading and give yourself a good shot at some primo bud.

Readings not everyones thing but if you look through our outdoor section and resource section you'll thank us all in the long run, believe me i was a newb myself till few month back, still am dont get me wrong, but the weeds good ;)

I never have. A grower would have to be quite diligent in his removal daily of tent/cover and not sure about temps when covered. But I imagine it could be done if dedicated enough and could control temps/ventilation

Basically your plant is still in vegetation mode. The fastest way(and only way) I know of to force it into flowering mode is to block out ALL light for 36 hours straight. If you can manage to do that, just that once, the extreme light its getting now will be beneficial and you will have wicked buds everywhere. People say let her do her thing, but you'll get great results much sooner if you manipulate the light.

If its all for you and there's no rush then just wait. I get the feeling that's not the case though.

Unfortunately this is misinformation. Even if it goes into flower mode it will switch back into veg mode if it then continues to gel long amounts of light. You would need to block out 11-12 hours of light daily, until the days get short enough to support that. It's not worth the effort. I'm not saying that putting a plant into 36 hours of darkness won't put it into flower, I am saying that I have never heard of, I've talked to a lot of respected growers and none of them use that teqnique, and even if it does work the plant will go back into veg once the darkness is removed, that would greatly slow down growth. Like I said before, I'd let nature run her course.
