No, because the engine will overheat. Wouldn’t cause that. The coolant is always replaced on time and never mixed. Did make sure there was no debris or anything else in the coolant system.

I had a 01 dodge that would overheat when the heater core went bad.
A heater core is part of the cooling system so if it's plugged it could/will cause over heating.

Currently 60, with a high of 68 expected today. Still raining, supposed to rain off and on all day. Grabbed another cup of coffee and just checked the garden. I didn't change the timer on the lights, so they come on an hour earlier according to daylight savings time. But all that doesn't matter to the plants, I just left everything the same.

We use to remove our thermostats in the summer to keep our engines from overheating.
And yeah trash in the heater core can keep enough coolant from flowing through the block.

Well I replaced the water pump today. A bit involved. Remove wheel, power steering pump and reservoir, alternator and crankshaft pulley.
Pulled the pump off and it was good. So back to the drawing board on the root cause.
And to top it off I got it a tooth out of time so I gotta do it all over again. Replaced the radiator since I had a new all metal one on hand.

Now it’s going to be dark when I get home after work.

It overheats but only at low rpm. Speed doesn’t affect it. Fans work. Thermostat has been replaced. Not using coolant. I don’t suspect a head gasket but I guess I ought to do a compression test. Head gasket ought to get worse with higher rpm. And my issue gets better at high rpm.
Getting worse. Last winter the only symptom was the heat wouldn’t blow hot at idle. Makes me think it is a flow issue.

Do you have a head gasket leak detector kit? It will tell you right away if combustion is getting past and into cooling fluids.

On my car it has a shut off valve. No coolant flow to my core until I turn the selector on heat. I appreciate it though. I am at a loss at the moment.

Block is clean. The entire coolant system is clean. No gunk, nothing. Blew the radiator out reverse flow after I removed it and it was clean too.

I tested for combustion gas last summer. Negative. Air pocket is possible but I vacuum filled the system last time it was opened. It’s been getting progressively worse over the course of 5-6k miles.
