EXACTLY! That's the bottom line. In my career, I only filled out two job apps. I was hired on the spot by all of them. Last big outfit was one of the paper pushers that wanted you to fill one out. It asked if I'd consider running work for them. I said no. I was asked by the interviewer why. I told him that I'd ran a lot of work in my days, but I started out in the trades working with my hands, and I wanted to finish up that way. I still helped out when I could, but being a foreman (foreskin) wasn't my desire.Didn't need the letter. I had references that they knew and trusted and a good work history.
One of the questions on the app asked when I could go to work. I said now. Dude asked me about that, too. I replied, "Tools are in the truck, I'm dressed for it, and I'm already here.
Was on a job a half hour later.
