Is there a way to test Cal-Mag levels?

I do that with a trellis. Just bend the mains over and outward. Tying them to the trellis with coated wire. This plant though has just been an odd ball from the start. Tons of single leaves and lots of low popcorn. I think the clone was taken late in flower and never quite got back to "just vegging".

I think some is very stain dependent too. No comparison in bud density/structure to my best/easiest producers. Lav Jones, Permanent Marker and Apple Fritter all cranked out the large dense buds for all 3 of us.
I had that happen not long ago. I pushed a SFV into flower and it really wasn't that far into reveg. It flowered but left me with clusters of tiny buds. Pain in the ass to trim. Most of it went to the butter pile..lol.

Pushed the blue Moon Rocks same way but they finished with some nice normal bud that got pretty large.

My c99 did that I turned the whole thing into decarb for caps and butter after it cured.

Taking the top mature buds is fine. The lowers will continue to grow without harming the plant. It actually an excellent way to harvest a plant.

The Jack's is some pretty good stuff but it needs a little help now n then. Bloom has no calcium support so pick up a good calmag formula or some calcium nitrate. Ya also need some Epsom salts.

Check out the Jacks thread here on MP. Good info in there.

It doesn't really matter what nutrient ya use. Ya just have to find the correct dose and stick with it.

Seedlings..1/8tsp 202020
Veg.. 1/4tsp 202020, calnit, Epsom
Flower.. 1/4-1/2tsp bloom, 1/4calmit, 1/4epsom
I feed them with every watering. If they need water..they get Jack's.
I use tap water. I trust the promix to buffer my ph..and it does. So no metering is needed.
My feeding schedule changes slightly if I find a plant with high or lower needs. So ya adjust as needed.

I'd say your doing fine. Ya just need a grip on the feeding thing to get the most out of your plants. Each crop will get easier and more rewarding. I like seeing new growers succeed. Believe it or not your help me by me helping you. Keeps things fresh in my mind..so thank you.
No, no. Thank you.

I ordered the Calmag in last week along with the 20/20/20 and the bloom. I also picked up epsom salt. The 20/20/20 isn't coming until Tues or Wed this week.

I'm sketchy on the dates for the two LSD25s early in flower but I'm really documenting the Strawberry Banana that went into plugs 6 days ago. I placed the 5 seedlings, up and clear in 2 days, (so veg, day 4 week 1) into 5-1 quart containers with FF Happy Frog soil and a plug-hole lined with xtreme garn Mykos fungi. I'm currently using a 300W LED saltwater aquarium light on an 18/6 schedule, placed 3' above the 5 plants. They sit in a double tray with perlite.

Different subject: It made complete sense to top the plant so I did. Definitely the right move. All the lower bud with majority-white pistils were immediately opened to light and air. The remaining fan leaves were greening up and the whole plant looked like she liked it. So onward for a bit longer and wait for her to tell me when she's ready. I'm going to do the same with the Gelato that has four top colas, a few larger mid-plant ones that will be removed when they get ready and just remove those, water and help the lower there too.

I'll see about pics of the topped LSD25 thats mid-harvest.

The LSD25s that were looking underfed got fed yesterday with 2.5 ml Calmag (stirred into 0.5 Gal RO/DI water first. 1/2 tsp of Jack's bloom was added and another 0.5 Gal of unsoftened well water was added. One gallon per plant was used (2 plants). It had a ph of 7.0 and was 850 ppm. The gallon was split into two successive 0.25 Gal feedings spaced ten minutes apart. The pots were put above clean drain collecting pans to measure run-off which was 6.8 ph on both plant's runoff.....one having a 993 ppm and the other was 1180. Both were 850 in. 2 days before that it was 1/2 gallon RO/DI water and Calmag @ 2.5 ml per gallon.

Thanks again for the dialogue and info.......I'll get that pic when the lights come on.......plant is sporting a flat-top and looks net-made.

Sounds like ya rolled up into this with a plan in mind. Refreshing to see. So many just plant and hope for the best and often fail.

Topping of plants is a method many new and old growers use and it's an effective way to spread a canopy but...it's not the only way. Visit my Rerun thread and you'll see I never top anything and can create more bud sites than any topping could ever create.

With a seed grow or a normal clone grows I use training and floaters.

There's no real right or wrong way. Ya just find what works and exploit the hell out of it..lol.

I'm loving your enthusiasm. No doubt you'll excel in this stuff.

I gotta learn that those look awesome

Yeah them buds down below don't get much love. The deeper ya can get light penetration the better. A slow harvest top to bottom is a good idea. We all know tops ripen first.

I try to train plants outward with floater screens so that center growth...the stuff usually in the dark below..gets full light the whole way. Doing it this way the whole canopy gets ripe at the same time.

I did actually wander into the hobby, I just don't know what moderation is sometimes.......tools and equipment are a couple of degrees below knowledge but are by no means insignificant. In my case it (being the automation of the whole environment) acts as a buffer for my screw-ups and is allowing me to see more detail.

I also got it in my head that I was going to do my first grow-out au natural, as-it-were, to learn what natural looked like. By the time I read anything on LST, HST, bending, pruning and defoliating the road was set. At least it showed me natural and the immediate fact that pretty much everything I'm seeing is not what I will be doing going forward. Cool thing is the practicality isn't lost on me, I've learned a lot from the contrasts in the techniques employed manipulating these plants. I will take you up on the Rerun thread as I need help in that regard. Always looking for the path of least resistance. When I opened the Can Bible and after the basics on the plant, they had a short bit on popping seeds, like a quick start guide. I put the seeds in plugs and three days later went to a local growshop for my major purchases and said, fuck it, here we go. I've owned a small business for 25 years and try to support sticks and bricks retailers working niches. It also helps to have a friendly group of experts you can tap if needed. I use Amazon but goddamn if I'm not trying to stop. I think the paradigm shift is in its late stages and local retail is going to be a distant memory before long. I still try to spend local and small business with someone I can actually see. Anyway.

It's been a blast and I'm just getting started.

Well look there. Your gonna have some nice bud. On your first try. That's saying something.

I look forward to seeing ya progress. Have your started a journal?

Topping her just made sense.

I have my notebook for my tent to scratch down my figures and actions. I also installed Jane which I'm using for the StrawBana strain from Fastbuds. Or were you referring to a thread in this Forum's Grow Journal section? The info you can log on Jane looks comprehensive and the app is so far user-friendly but technically speaking what the hell do I know? It looks like it covers all the bases, but I am limited in my capacity to make such a judgement. I know the info gathered by the app easily translates into a nice journal.

With Jane I was hoping that I can focus on my routine, which needs polishing. I don't quite have my spaces organized quite right and there is logistical stuff to be worked out. I also don't feel competent enough to "show my work". I'm afraid keeping up with the app and a journal would be too much. On the other hand you can't offer advice on what you can't see so the most valuable resource (growers around here) isn't used to advantage.

That's a loaded question that is harder to answer than it should be.

Showing your grow will be an advantage to everyone. People learn from this process. Good and bad grows help us learn what to do and what not to do. I always write up both good and bad. Plus if you run into trouble it will be easier to diagnose with pics. This is a great group. People may offer suggestions but won’t just talk your grow down here. No shaming thats not us. We do kid each other sone more than others but it’s like a big happy family here. If you have questions just ask. Most of us love to help and will happily help if we can.

Those apps are handy and have some decent information in them.

I'm documenting the Straw-bana in detail and will start one for that.

My reluctance comes from some of the other counter-culture (which MJ is increasingly less counter these days) websites I used to stalk when I was younger. The subject matter was often more on the controversial side such as DMT extractions and Shrooms cultivation. Being on the chemistry side for some of it brought an alignment of strange bedfellows. The point is that I was ingrained with a certain way of communicating and using information sites of this nature in particular ways. I know the MJ community has never been like these places were or more importantly, populated with people afraid to discuss processes or give information on how things are accomplished. In fact the most popular acronym is UTFSE (use the fucking search engine). Your reading to asking questions ratio was heavily, heavily weighted on the reading side. No help was given to anyone who hadn't clearly done a ton of preparation and research. You could find yourself boxed off from information for simply trying to get it without proof you tried to read on it before you asked.

It's realIy a mentality problem and it's mine. There isn't a hint of it here, but my mentality was skewed many years ago.
