This will be my first post. Lovely site here, I can judge a forum by how many stickies it has, and this one has A LOT, which I like to see. :D

So to cut to the chase....I recently acquired 100+ seeds off of what was supposed to be sour diesel, but ended up being a very midsy version of S.D. because of the accidental seeding. None the less, it was still decent **** and I got a **** load of seeds out of it, so I'm not complaining. Since my current accommodations do not allow me to attempt the indoor cultivation of these seeds, I am planning on going for an outdoor grow. I've read quite a bit on outdoor cultivation and how to pick a prime spot and care for plants in the wild, but before I embark on this endeavor, there are still a few questions that I've been wondering regarding my situation:

1.) Is sour D a good outdoor strain for my climate? I live in the NE states, tristate area to be specific, so the earliest I could put them in the ground would be the middle/end of april, latest I would want them to be in the ground would be the middle/end of October since my first and last frost dates are April 3 and Nov 7 respectively. Would I be able to get this strain to flower by then if I put them in the ground mid/late april, or maybe later just to be on the safe side? Any experience or knowledge with this strain, specifically in an outdoor cold winter climate?

2.) In a similar vein of the last question, how/when should I start these seeds indoors to be planted out? I plan on growing them until they're seedlings indoors, then putting them in a greenhouse/cloche once the weather is conducive to accustom them to the outdoors and then finally once they about 6 inches tall, maybe less, planting them to the clandestine location in the woods. Any thoughts on if this is a good idea or a bad idea? Would it be better if I brought the seedlings to the spot earlier or later than I suggested? Like I said, just trying to figure out the time line that I would have to follow for optimal flowering conditions to occur and finish before the temps get below 60F.

And finally,

3.) Since the spot I plan on planting them into will be in a naturally self-sustaining ecosystem, would it really be necessary to bring fertilizers of any sort? The woods have been mulching themselves for years and years, and as such, I would assume that the forest's soils are incredibly fertile. Would this be a flawed assumption to make? I've been reading a lot about permaculture lately, which advocates the use of the natural environment to fertilize itself by using decaying plants and compost as fertilizer, so I'm basing this idea on these values. Any thoughts on whether these ideas could be used for mj cultivation? Granted, fertilizing couldn't hurt, especially if it was organic fertilizer, but still, my study of permaculture has forced me to rethink the way we grow plants and wonder if doing nothing and letting mother nature take care of itself would be just as good or better than forcing and controlling mother nature.

Any other tips or ideas you can think of would be much obliged. Sorry for asking so many questions, thanks for taking the time to read and answer them. Feel free to answer only one, or none. Thanks in advance!

Hello fellow New Englander!

I am in NE as well. Good to see another newbie here from NE. Unfortunately I can't answer your questions, but I wanted to say hello and welcome to the group. I am new here and haven't really contributed much yet.

I will not be growing outdoors, only because of too many eyes around. I am now living up in the sticks...not too many people around but still it doesn't stop my suspicious attitude of people being nosy some day. Or having a delivery guy swing by on accident (wrong house!) and see my growth.

I just wish I had a good place to grow. I am still looking for a job so I haven't even smoked in around 9 months now, then I will get a place of my own (with my gf) and I will be growing indoors.

I wish you luck on your growing. Just remember though, up here it can still snow in April and freeze in Oct. It is a tricky area.

i run the ECSD clone indoors and it goes 80 to 90 days in flower, here in Michigan I would not run her out of doors unless i had a one of them blackout tent things to make her 12/12 from the start of spring. The SD IBL's from Rez go anywhere from 74 to 84 days still prolly too long for a northern summer. I assume u r working with beans and not the clone momma since u say u are a noob, so lets look at how u should go about this first veg them indoors till they are a.) sexually mature and b.)tgake clones and move to 12/12 to discover which ones are female( there are other methods but this will be the easiest for a noob) c.)try to have them about 18 to 24 inbches tall and set them out in the shade at first them after a week or so let them get the full sun, and finally d.) either buy or diy u a blackout tent.

Cool, thanks for the info. So what if I was to find a place that only gets like 12 hours of light or less a day? Would that work for trying to get it to flower earlier, or would the minimal amount of light it received when it didn't have full sun still mess with the light cycle? The blackout tent is a good idea, but I don't think I would be able to pull that off because it would mean taking care of it every day, which would mean doing it in my back yard, which is not an option.

Another thing to consider is that not all strains need 12/12 to flower, they can flower at as little as 8 hours of darkness. Is this one of strains, or is it at least one that can do under 12? I mean, the nights don't get to be 12 hours long until the end of september, which means that unless you're growing a strain that flowers in 30 days, growing weed in this area would be impossible. Considering people apparently have grown weed around here quite a bit, I think that there has to be a way to make it work...maybe not with this strain, but other ones with decent flowering periods.

Libertaire Im curious about the seed your going to attempt to grow...

Did you pollenate a plant for seeds? or did a plant herm on you??

I have no idea what happened exactly, the person I got it from just said that an accidental seeding of some sort occurred. Whether it was as a result of a hermie sneaking in there or not removing the males in time, I'm not sure. Why do you ask?

An alternate option I'm considering is trading these seeds for an autoflower strain somehow, or at least a strain with a shorter flower period. I don't know how I would go about doing this though because I wouldn't expect someone who doesn't know me to trust a.) that I'm not a cop and b.) that I actually have what I say I have and would know how to package them safely and discreetly. If anyone knows of a way I could do this, it would be much obliged. Like I said, I have plenty of seeds, over 100.
