I'm doin a dirt grow (obviously) and I have a little baby white widow and baby silver haze.

I grew some bag seed before with about 1/3 less light than I have now, and I thought I remember it taking off like a rocket (although its entirely possible it just feels like its going slower since I check it twice a day lol) Same dirt, same water supply (I installed an ro/di unit for my salt water aquarium and for drinking.)

The dirt is from the dog run so its full of.... erhm... natural supplement, we'll call it

My question is: do these babies look ok? Or are they struggling? This is day 4 for the WW and day 3 for the SH. They are growing what seems to me to be relatively slow, and the white widow's new fan leaf, as you can see, seems to be kinda jacked up (and the deformed side is ever-so-slightly yellow.) I'm more concerned with the widow, as the silver haze looks to be ok, but still is exhibiting the same slow growth.

I confess, I don't have ph tests for soil (i do for salt water aquarium lol) so I cant tell you if the soil is jacked up, all I can guarantee is that the conditions are the same for the last plant I grew (which turned out to be a male, bastard) except that I have bout 3x the amount of light (64 watts from 4 grow florescent, the kinda-pink ones they sell for plants at Lowes) . And that last one got to be about 3 feet tall in 40-ish days

If you guys think it looks ok, great. If not, I'll go get some test supplies and we'll go from there.

Okay first, to be honest with you, ive been growing for about 4 years and i have NEVER used a pH tester. Some people use em, I have never done so.

But i will say that if you got your soil from the dog run, those Natural nutrients you got might not be so good. Personally i wouldn't wanna smoke it if it contained my dogs feces, i dont know about you. hahaha.

They look like they might be stressing a little bit, what kind of light are you using and how close? your not feeding it any other nutrients are you? But they look pretty good for the most part. Im just wondering why the leaves curling a little bit? I think it'll be fine... If they start to look a little unhealthy, give em a nice flush with a mild nutrient solution. and i mean hardly nutrients at all. Just a little bit.

it does look like a nute issue, but...
they look alive. try some store bought organic dirts maybe...
maybe some blue spectrum could help too... wally marts got a neat lil plant light at a good price, they work well for me in starting out seeds/clones as well as supplemental flowering lights.
but whats a porcupine know about growing anything..?

Lol will it really taste like dog dookie? I assume the dog's stuff will be long gone by the time the plant is full grown (I will need to add nutes to it before that time comes if I'm not mistaken?)

The lamps are just some T5 pink-ish grow lamps I picked up from Lowes, I think 64 watts in total (two 20 watters and two 12 watters... something like 1450 lumines? ) and they are currently about a foot, maybe a little more, away. They are in the basement, and its probably 65 degrees down there (its like 15 outside and snowing to beat the band as I type)

Nope no nutrients at this time, just the dirt and preprocessed Purina One.

See at first, with my first plant (the male) I was worried about natural dirt because of all the things people said could be in it, but I had (insert Borat voice here) Great Success with it and its veg growth, so I decided to give it another go.

I think I know what your talking about though, its a little egg-lookin thing that supposed to be all-in-one herb grower? I actually saw that and thought about picking it up to start these haha

to be honest with you, no i dont think they are gonna taste like dog crap because your plants are still tiny, but if you switch to a larger bucket and put the same dirt, i wouldn't want to smoke it! hahahaha Try picking up some foxfarm or something? Its great stuff for plants and you wont have to worry about whats in it.

You should try shooting for atleast 2000 lumens per sqf. When i run my t5 setup with 4 bulbs I start my plants about 6 inches away. You can run those flouros pretty close compared to a HID.

Man you should try hitting up craigslist if your in the states. Try looking in the for sale section. i do it all the time dude! got my hydro setup for under 200 and it was over 400 new. Also im not sure its a big deal but if you could get the temperature over 70 degrees f you would probably have a little better growth. Ive run my plants about 50 F and they have done fine, But the output and success can be so much greater in a warmer Temp. dont get em above 90! that will prove fatal.

I dont start feeding my plants nutes for about a month in my soil grows.they dont need to much except for TLC and water. When you do decide to start using nutes, try going with something such as foxfarm or cutting edge solutions. i'm not so agreeable with harsh chemical around my plants. miracle-gro isnt something that floats my boat! hahaha. However you deicde to continue though you will learn through trial and error. Everyone grows differently and succesfully with time! Good luck!

I would ditch the "grow lights" and veg under all cool whites. I started out using a combo of cool white and warn reds my last grow and did ok through veg. This grow I'm using all cool whites and appear to be getting better results with clones grown under same conditions......

warm temps help develop a good root system and if the air in your basement is 65 than in the bottom of the pot its a little cooler. Not really warm enough so that might explain part of your initial slow growth. I bet once you get some good roots astablished it will take right off.

pimpdaddycoolz... Problem with a hydro setup is my lack of space. I have about 12 sqft to work with lol (its a nook between storage racks in my basement) and I cant make more room, lest I have the parents inquiring why things were moved (I rent from my parents, and while their visits are few and far between, they do occur every now and then.) I'm still considering buying a 250w hps lamp from online, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

Friend-of-a-friend... I had pretty good results with these bulbs before and I really don't want the plant getting much bigger than the last one (lack of space lol.) Plus I don't wanna buy anything else haha, trying to keep this as low cost as possible

BUDISGUD... lol the seedlings arn't in straight dog crap haha, its mixed in with the dirt. And the dirt wont get any warmer than it is, and its doesn't smell lol, so I think i'll be ok


ok posted some more photos, as you can see the WW is still jacked up, but the silver haze seems to be doing ok. I've got two more WW seeds germinating in cups so hopefully they will get going here soonish.

ohhh my bad! i didnt mean look for a hydro setup on craigslist, i meant to say look for a LIGHT on craigslist hahaha. I got my hydro setup on there and it was in perfect condition. you can find anything on there!

and 12 sqft?!?!?! dude thats perfect for like a 400 watt! id put my 600 watt in there! hahaha but yeah id recomend trying to get a heat pad, not one for reptiles though! i did that one time and screwed up everything. That pad must have got 160 degrees or better. It snapped the wood on the top shelf of my dresser and killed the seeds. But dude if you get a small light, like A 250 or sumthin, it would probably warm the place up... you wouldnt need to worry about stuff like heat pads.

But yeah if you get a better light, your buds would turn out soo much better!

No, not at all actually. The silver haze seems to be just fine, albeit a little slow, but otherwise happy. The white widow (as you can see) is still way messed up... I think it has Down's Syndrome haha. It doesnt even look like a marijuana plant! But its still growing lol, thats the weird part! Its growing just as fast as the silver haze. Who knows, maybe it'll continue to grow and produce some super-jacked up 50%thc weed haha or maybe I've somehow created a stealth pot plant that people can look at and never know what it is lol

I dunno really, I guess I'll just let it do what it wants to do :laugh:. Not expecting anything, just curious what its going to turn into (got 4 more seeds germinating right now, all four took thankfully.)

lmao...i think ur poo is too hot for ur seedlings...lol. seriously if ur goin 2 use dog crap it should @ least b composted 1st. imo i wouldnt use crap from animals that eat meat. to risky 4 disease.

dude you should really try and flush it out. Maybe that cup had a little too much poo or something. Thats not lookin good at all. Put it under some luke warm water, around 65 degrees F and just let it run through the soil for a little while...

And personally, i dont know what other growers would do, But i would get some B1 and give it a light dose to stimulate your roots. Thats after you have flushed and let it fry out a bit. But im serious about the flush, for atleast a few minutes.

Ohh and make sure its not too warm. I just flushed out a plant and thought i tested the water and when i checked on it the water was piping hot. The plants almost dead now... hahaha Im going to take what clones i can tomorrow....

Well, I've come to the conclusion that it wasn't anything in the soil or lighting or temp that messed that seedling up... I think it was just crappy seeds.

I just finished trying to germinate all of the seeds I ordered.

Out of 15 seeds ordered from marijuana-seeds.nl (10 white widow, 5 silver haze) 14 of them failed to grow. 3 silver haze's were smashed. 4 white widows were complete duds, and 4 other white widows failed to germinate any further than the shell cracking (they just... stopped growing after the little tap root came out,) one came out of the ground but then stopped growing before anything green unfolded, and one made it to the messed up state i've photographed.

I'm kinda irritated actually after realizing this. I've read about this happening to other people though... could it be because of shipping? Or is the website just a poor supplier?

It could be the website... Maybe the producers are shipping out bad stock.

And last but not least... It could be you. NO OFFENSE! im not trying to blame it on you at all, just maybe something by accident? And im not saying its definately something you may or may not have done, just a possibility, it can happen to anyone ya know?

You should try getting some from a friend or something? do you know anyone else that grows? tell your buddies to save the seeds if they smoke...
