Hi all, I asked this in the auto flower section as well, but thought this might actually be the best spot for it.

Complete noob here.. I’ve grown a couple of times, outdoors, but that was almost 20 years ago. I am setting up a 48”x48”x78” tent in my basement. I have the Nextlight Core LED and a 4” AC Infinity fan/filter. I have an oscillating fan for the floor and (2) small fans that will be mounted higher. The plan is to grow (5) auto flowers in (5) gal fabric pots. I am using soil.

Nothing is hooked up yet, but I’ve had a temperature gauge in the basement to record temps and it has been a steady 64-65 degrees with humidity fluctuating from 70-80%. My question is, will I have to have a dehumidifier inside the tent as well as outside the tent in the basement? The basement is essentially a half basement and half crawl space. So, the basement isn’t completely walled in. The walls are about 5’ high and then it is crawl space outward from there. I live in SC. Presently, it is roughly 75-80degrees typically with humidity anywhere from 50% to 100%. It won’t be long before it is regularly in the 90’s with pretty high humidity. Thanks in advance for any advice!!

i would just get a big enough one to do the whole basement. i mean you are pulling from the basement to feed air into the tent. get one with a hose attachment and run it to a floor drain. your current humidity is a touch high for veg and way too high for bloom.

If I understand you right the crawlspace is open to the outside environment? At least the environment under the house? In that case I suggest you get one of those "portable" ac units with the hoses designed to go out the window. I picked up a refirb from Wally world last year for $250. It will do the job dehumidifying and when necessary it will cool as well. They are ideal for large tents as they deal with a number of issues that you will encounter as the year goes on and summer really arrives.

I wished I would’ve thought of this before I bought a dehumidifier. I bought a (50 pint) one today. I wasn’t thinking about the middle of the summer when it’s 100 degrees, I might actually need an AC as well. Might take it back and do the 3 in 1 multi purpose unit. Thanks for the advice!!
