Alright... I recently purchased a 50 watt High Pressure Sodium Light from Home Depot and the specs are:
50watts
530mA
120V
60Hz

I cant figure out how to get it running. I went to Radioshack and hooked it up to a normal extension cord and it didn't even flicker. I used an adapter that had 1000mA and with the same results. I'm not much of an electrician so I'm stumped and have googled a bunch of 'how to's and it's not working too well.
Any help would be appreciated. I've got 1 sprouted, 6 started today and 5 tomato plants on the way; so, I need to get this ball rolling.

Thanks

I assume it just plugs into the wall right? There may be something wrong with it. Plug it in and leave it on for a couple minutes and see if anything happens. It takes a minute or two for them to heat up. If that doesn't work, take it back and get another one. I don't know how many plants you plan to grow with a 50 watt hps system but it's not going to be much. I would say the 5 tomato plants will take up all your space if you plan to grow them under the hps. I would get a bigger one for what you have in mind. How big is your grow area? Keep us posted. Hope this helps. Take care and be safe.

I apologize, I was real vague. I am only starting the tomato seeds in the box and then moving them outside. I've got a bunch of CFL's in there and really only planning to grow 1-3 plants with that 50 watt. Its a micro-grow, like I said and a 100 watt would probably catch it on fire.
I just needed to know if the black(neg) and white(pos) wires would light up with the other half of an extension cord. I'll see what happens and let you know.
