I have 4 bagseed plants looking pretty healthy from being under 2 tube flouro's setup there about a foot and a half now. Do i still need to keep the light couple inches from top or can it be a good distance like a foot.

Flourescents have very little penetration. Anything further than 6 inches from a tube flourecent won't recieve enough light to photosynthesise properly.

i tried 2 in for a bit with my flos and the ends do get hot enough to burn your plant i say 4 is the best distance with them IMO

"cool" white flos(blue spectrum) usually won't burn leaves if they touch the tube, "warm" flous (red spectrum) sometimes will...

My new T5's seem cool enough to keep the leaves very close:D but i do like them about an 1" away;)

I'm on my first grow op and all I could get was the tube flouros. I have two 40watt soft white and i keep em about 1-2 inches over the plants. I also keep a fan blowing upward at them. I can feel absolutely no heat with the fan and the plants are fine.
