Has any one tried to make a male on purpose for breading?

I was wondering if it was possible to grow a plant under certain conditions to make a male or stress a plant while flowering to get it to go hermie to collect pollen. So thin it could be used to breed.... Has anyone done this and also why are hermie seeds bad? Thanks guys...

WOW what a question. whew....
1. Gonna move this over to our breeding section.
2. Genetics determine sex.
3. Hermies are a product of stress and a survival trigger....although some landrace Sativas do have this trait from nature and are just dealt with. Pure Sat growers are a different breed of growers IMO they got the patience of Job
4. Hermies procreate hermies which hurt the overall gene pool of MJ.
5. Hermies are NOT femd seeds.
6. When trying for males or females in a grow....grow a lot out...select the best and ditch the rest.
7. When gifting seeds you crossed always let others know its untested so they can keep a closer eye on the strain.
8. Breeding and crossing are two different things. Crossing is just a simple pollen goes on female pistols makes seeds...= a cross
Breeding on the other hand is very time consuming and much care involved...there are many mthods to breeding but mainly is isolating and selection of specific traits and attempting to stabalize so all progeny is very close in traits to the original parents. (cooks tour...you want more better start googling and use the sticky's at the top of this section)

Thanks, just asking because it would be nice to have at least one male out of ever pack of seeds i get to produce pollen to cross/get moor seeds...

Yep, horrible stuff IMO up there with mites and other things in a grow for me.
When I grow unkown seeds, I only do an unknown grow. I do not put in tested and proven plants in with em. That way I can see if the unkown ones I am working with have a herm trait. Early flowering herms I've seen regular looking male sacs and female pistols. Late flowering herms. I've seen more of a bananna looking male sac. All get culled outa my grow area.

but...if all you have are herms...then I say let em finish..smoke the bud crush the seeds...then the time and effort isn't wasted.

What about contamination? I don't really have another place for shemale unless it can be run under a couple cfl's...

Like I said if the only plants you got are hermied, then finish em out, but they will be seeded. After the grow wipe everything down with bleach water solution and you'll be fine.
If you have pure females I would just hack em up.

Thanks Heaps for mentioning the washing with a mild solution of bleach and water. The bleach has a very good side benifit as it also kills many hiding insects as well as molds and that ain't bad.
