Get a cheap jeweler's loupe (ebay is your friend) and check the trichomes. Most everyone shoots for around 20-30% amber. Much more amber is great for couch lock. I smoked some that was closer to 60% and it took my legs away. If the house would have caught fire, I'd have had to crawl out the door.

If you are like me(and from the picture above I think you are), your hands will shake too much to take a picture that shows enough detail of the trichomes. Do you have a way to brace the phone to hold the phone steadier?

When there's no white hairs left or just a few that's when you start checking trichs.

Nobody said it was ready for harvest. Just telling him to get a Loupe where he will be able to see the trichomes better.
All the hairs do not have to be brown, red, or gold to be ready for harvest,,its all in what kinda high he is looking for.
