Anchorage sits in a bowl 3 sides are mountians and one side is water. We usualy have our first real snow mid october and usualy starts melting off around late april to mid may. 25 miles out of town is portage. the snow there is usualy from mid september to late may. there are places outside of portage in portage glacier valley where there is snow year round. in the summer from late june to mid August there is 22 to 24 hours of sun light. in the dead of winter we only get 2 or 3 hours of "daylight" average snow depth in january is 24 to 36 inches(2 to 3 feet) We have right now in town 5 feet of snow, The coldest day in Anchorage in 2006 was November 15th. It was -36 deg. f. (68 degreese below freezing in farenheit.) The hottest day was in July. it was 82 deg. alot of places closed that day as there are not a/c units in alot of places here. average summer day is 18 hours of daylight (13 hours of that it is high noon) nite temp is usualy 56 to 64 and day temp its usualy 63 to 75 (and 75 is flippn hot for alot of Alaskans) yet a small part of fairbanks actualy see's winter nites of 60 below and summer days of 90 above..farenhieght ..Ever hear of matinuska thunderf**k or northernlights bud?? Excellent pot growing season up here.. Housing id outragously expensive...so is the cost of living. average 3 bed 2 bath duplex style zero lot line condo w/ a 8 foot by 12 foot "backyard" id between 120 to 160 thousand dollars. a small 3 bed 1 1/2 bath house w/ a small backyard built in early 80's is about 170 to 220 thousand dollars on the low end, older neighborhoods. No more room to build here. all/most new construction is condo's and apartment's not many new houses unless an old house was destroy'd and if there is room than it will be rezoned for a duplex. hope this helps.
