 Is halogen a good light source? I once veged a plant with one and had good results but killed the plant before flowering. I'm just weighing my options, I know a good hps or mh can't be beat. Thnx!

I think halogen may contain some useable light, but not very many lumens per watt. They get pretty hot too. Floros are much cooler, more efficient, and probably cheaper too. Can't go wrong with $9 shoplight and $6 in bulbs.

Halogens are no good. Like E.M. said, hot, hot, hot, barely/if any useable spectrum and not energy effecient in the least bit.
You'll have to have the lights so far away to stop from cooking them alive plus the lack of spectrum will make them stretch like you wouldn't believe.
