Hey guys, I just picked up some rapid rooters today at the hydro store near me. I was wondering if anyone had good tips or advise into how I should go about germing seeds in these. Should I make the seed crack open in the paper towel before placing them in or should I just drop the seed in there and keep it wet?

I dont use RR's but have heard nothing but good things about them from ppl in the know. I usually presoak for 24+hours then straight to the pre-moistened MGSeedlingStarterMix. Works everytime, if the seeds viable that is. It seems the less I futz with the seed (i.e. the whole paper towel germ trick) the better my results. Emulating Terra Madre has aided me greatly thus far.

Okay cool thanks Greeneyes. when I went into the store today I asked for seed starter mix but the guy recommended these rapid rooters, and he atleast admited he didnt grow anything, but he said all his customers love them.

About how long do normal viable seeds take to pop through the soil so I know when to give up on them? (I had one that opened and gave a tap root so I put it in some dirt that was in my back yard till I got some different soil today)

I'm just playin around with some mystery "blueberry" seeds a friend gifted me until I order my better seeds in a week or two and if these seeds take off they'll go outside. If these don't work I'll go get some seed starter mix. I've had two of 3 crack open in papertowels in 24hrs. Now I'll try soaking some for 24hrs then dropping them in the RRs.

I flip my Rapid Rooters upside down and make a new hole. After that I just place the seed in. Beware of watering to much, those RR hold water pretty good and if you over water you will get stem rot.

yeah i flip RR's over for cloning. but when i germ'd i put the seeds in paper towels till i see a tap root. then transfer to RR(tap root down). and i rip off a lil piece of the RR and place it over the hole so no light gets to the seed

In soil they will take 5 days to break soil. At least in my experience its always been 5 days.

Enjoy your grow Silver Bullet, you're going to love it :) I'll be here watchin'.

Yup I'm not gonna have an outdoor journal but onceI get everything for the inside grow I'll start one.

Thanks everyone for the tips and info.

Another question.. I picked up some FF Ocean Forrest, when I get a seed going in the RRs would it fry the little thing if I put it in that soil right off the bat. I thought that the soil was what I was going to need to buffer my supersoil I'm cookin up soon but I guess I buffer with promix bx instead. With that being said I now have 1.5cf of this Ocean Forrest soil that I guess will go to the outdoor plants, maybe my veg plants too in 1gal pots.
