was taking the percaution of setting traps a little to harsh???? would you do somthing like this??? what does everyone eles do to prevent their crop from being stolen?was or is this dumb of me? just looking for some oppinions?

I think that I really lean a lot towards more passive action, like SUPERSTEALTH, or if that fails scare the bejeezez outa them. I've seen enough humans crap on each other to last me several lifetimes. Of coarse I'm not advocating making off with someone's stash, I would rather share.

I value my plants just as much as anyone, but I would never set any kind of traps to injure or possibly kill another person over a few plants. That's the kind of stuff that give growers a bad name, imo. I don't know how many times when people talk about others growing MJ, they talk about how they will shoot you or set ****y traps that you may stumble into. More bad PR. Plus, growing in the wild on someone elses property I consider my plants fair game with only one exception. If for some reason I have showed one of my friends/family members. That makes my plants off limits. I expect anyone that happens to find my plants to take them. So, I maximize my stealth and cover all angles to keep them from getting found. But, to each his own..

Harsh, yes. First you should have broken your 40 plants into smaller plots more spread out. That way if one plot if ruined the others will survive and nobody will be hurt. Second if you knew that they were there you could have come up with a more creative solution. If it were me, I'd camp out around where they were and wait for them to fall asleep(no fires must be stealthy). Put on your best scary Halloween costume and scare the living crap out of them. I'd be a hell of a lot funnier then some poor kid on crutches. There are plenty of ways to drive people away from a spot in the wilderness rather then injuring them.

I can't tell you how many plots I've come across while out on camping trips. I find a crap load out here and even more in the areas where you can cross country hike (stupid national parks,,, haha.) I always check for traps :( , I have some good eagle eyes that I don't just end up in the middle of one. I never take a thing but leave a little note and a blunt wrap wishing them the best of luck. We in the marijuana community should live by the philosophies that our forefathers have set (never saw the 70's you people are OLD! HAHA)

Yeah, if you knew who the kid was you could have just went to him and said hey, I heard you found my crop. It would be in your best interest to stay way from there unless you want a good old fashioned butt kicking.

Nah, I fall in the middle of the road. If its late sept i'll take a sample, something about quick drying over an open camp fire with your soup tin is very appealing. That’s one of the reasons for the note and the wrap. I'd like to think that it is the few that cause damage to other's 'property.' no mater where it may be located. If you really mus keep people away get some razor wire and place it about 6" off the ground between trees in a 15 foot circumference around your area. Falling flat on your face and finding out that you were caught in a trip wire will send most people off in the other direction at a speedy pace.

from a legal stand point.

you did everything wrong and luckily for you, he didn't go to the cops.
or you would probably be sitting in jail right now.

First of all, you ID'd yourself.

im not sure of Canadian laws, but in the USA.
YOU CAN NOT KNOWINGLY SET ANY KIND OF TRAPS.
on or off your property to cause bodily harm to anyone. PERIOD.

You realize how much liability you put yourself in?? civil and criminally.

Glad everything worked out for you..
remember these plants can be replaced. your life and others can't.

The kid, lucky for you, wasn't to bright or have people around him
with legal savy. He could be taking you to the cleaners ...

..mixed sentiments here...
First off, I have been ripped off, both by chance passerby and by a "friend". So I understand the feeling to "need"' to protect your investment. But the fact is, tactics like this, are the very type of thing that sheds a dim light on ALL of us, in the public eye.
..."fodder" for the propoganda machine...
...Not only that, but I take my 9 yr old grandson in the woods with me all of the time. It would be a very unlucky day.... for you, if it were him that had stepped in that conibear. Not meant to sound like a threat, but just sitting here imagining that scene, puts my wild imagination into high gear.
"IF" you were certain to put "only" theives in the path of harm, it would be one thing. But placeing innocent passerby's in harms way is totally out of the question.
"IMHO"...

Having also been "ripped" myself, I know that pain all to well, but I also would never consider ****y trapping my grows. If you cannot deal with the possibility of gettng ripped you really should not grow. It is up to us as growers to be creatve enough to conceal, or distract others from our grows.

Also like said above, PR can be our worst enemy, and an innocent caught in a ****y trap is as bad as it gets. DON'T DO IT!

I must say that when i saw the title about the "funny story" I was curious to read, but i just don't find it funny at all...

Put on your best scary Halloween costume and scare the living crap out of them.
Do that to campers round here and you might end up shot:(.

id put signs up in that area. not something like "oh im growing marijuana just up the road so please dont take it if your camping" but like ,if you could get a sign saying private property or "warning, there are bears up here. keep away, or you might get castrated"
im not a guy, but nobody messes with a bear, especially one that castrates you.

Signs are a bad idea. Most people look at signs like look they are hiding something, bet they have a crop. Most stoners never catch on to the fact that they are giving themselves away.

Picture this senerio:

Young man gets leg slammed in trap in the middle of a marijuana grow.

Young man goes to the police.

Traps are pulled and checked for DNA

DNA of the owner found on all of the traps

Person who's DNA is all over the traps is arrested for attempted murder, and for felony growing.

Same person spends the entire rest of his life in prison.

How funny is that? NOT
