florouscent lighting isn't Optimal at all... in that space.

However if you must use them get the ones with the most light output.

More lumens = more light penetration.

I would suggest a small 250w hid for that space if you want to stay small still or even a 400...HPS of course. But again if you want to stay with flo's. Either tubes the 2 footers or get some high output cfl's... envirolights makes a nice 125w that puts out 10k lumens.

2-3 of them would fit that space if you built a decent reflector for em.But again i would go with a small HPS before i went with flo's.Just my 2 cents

Flor's are very good for seedlings and for clones. You can use them for vegging but you would be better of IMHO to get yourself some cfl's or MH for vegging. Then a HPS for flowering. That would be the most ideal way to grow IMO.But if the moneys tight you would be alot better to go with some CFL's from wal-mart.You can use them all the way through, but for flowering you will need kind of alot of them, depending on how many plants you will have going. Some people have excellet out comes(CFL's).But IMHO Why cut yourself and your plants short on what they need(decent light)So I hope this helps,Keep it GREEN:hubba:

i agree

I have found that you do not have to go and blow your wad on expensive MH or HPS lamps to grow respectable plants. A good CFL that you may want to consider would be the 65-watt Fluorex lamp. Inexpensive and effective. Just remember to use a daylight spectrum for veg and a warmer light for flowering.

First, if you a dedicated to using floros, get some t-5s.

Second if you're not dedicated to floros, do get an HPS. For the price you'd spend on enough CFLs to fill that space, you could probably buy a good HPS. Don't forget you need twice as many CFLs: One set for veg and one set for bloom. I mean, sure you could get lots of little ones for cheap, but it still adds up. At Walmart (EVIL!!!!) a six pack of 23 watt CFLs cost $20. You'd need to spend $80 just on bulbs to get even close to one 250 watt HPS. Then you need to buy all the accutraments and stuff such as sockets, cords, etc. Sure you could probably get all you need for $100. But you can find a decent HPS for only maginally more which comes with reflector, etc. And when you have 12 CFLs in that space, the heat isn't really going to be any better than one HPS.

Third, if you are still dedicated to going CFL, don't waste your money on getting high wattage CFLs. Stick with the ones you can buy locally. I have had nothing but problems with the monster CFLs I bought!

BTW, I mistyped bulbs in the Walmart search engine. I typed in "Light Bubls". You know what Walmart offered to sell me instead of light bulbs or even telling me no results? Bibles. That's right. I got more than 100 hits for light bibles at Walmart.

hey thanks for the resposnes guys that makes alot of sense...i recently purchased a digital ballast and refelctor and a thousand watt hps and thousand watt mh and the store i purchased it from failed to mention how much over kill that was for my 4 trees.. could i possibly just purchase a 400watt bulb and put it in the ballast i recieved to support the 1000 watt bulbs?

NOOOOOOOOOOO, they have to match... or ur looking at starting a fire.

the lights are not necessarily too much... they'll put off some good heat tho... harder to cool then a 400w

Look, I grow with sunlight spectrum flor's that I bought from Home Depot and once I found the right height for them from the tops of the plants (1-2 inches) my plants began to flourish! Flors are just fine as long as you get the right wattage, spectrum, and the right ballast. I have a 70 gallon fish tank that my pots sit in with the same ballast that came with the tank... the flor is a 3 foot tube, and I have a smaller one in another tank for clones. If you learn to use flor's correctly they are wonderful... but until you figure out how to use them properly you will have LOTS of failures. I know I did until I got it right.

Hope this helped.
