I use CO2 in a sealed room. It works. I do it because it's good for the plants and I'm cheap. What a lot of folks don't realize is that after the plants use up all the CO2 in a room, they quit growing. Why pay for electricity for lights when it's not benefitting the plants? Give 'em what they need. They'll love ya for it.
I've got the tanks on a controller at a set PPM. I also have the valves set to come on a half hour before the lights come on (breakfast ready, girls) and to go off a half hour before the lights go off.
Told ya I was cheap!
We're looking into a propane CO² burner instead of more tanks. We have the plug for the Hydro X controller that will turn it on and off as needed to maintain the correct ppm for each week we set.
The controller works with the tanks but $100-200 per tank for new ones plus finding a close enough location to fill them is more costly than propane refills.
Our current 20 gallon tank only lasts 5-7 days in high growth Veg. Like 700-800ppm i think is what he sets it to.
We have to wait for the seedlings to be transplanted and then we will add co² starting at 400ppm for the first 2 weeks increasing by 200ppm per week for the next 2 until we're at 800ppm for a total of 7 weeks.
This is going to be on the low end of ppm for the flowering autos but I don't want to cause any problems with the photos in veg so were going to stick to 800 until the autos run their course.
Once we flip to 12/12 we will be up around 1000-1200ppm for up to 9 weeks. At which point a 20 gallon tank will only lasts a couple days.
I've never run CO² before. This is a first for me. "Steve" told me how long each tank lasted him in previous grows.
I really think a burner would better suit our needs. I really don't want to decrease potential yield by just running a lower DLI and no CO² but it is still an option if we want to save money.
I used to spend 10+ hours a day in my grow room back when I was breeding. Never realized that my presence was increasing CO² and helping the plants grow. With this controller I now understand that a person or a couple people just breathing in a grow room brings it up quite a bit. Last night it hit 500+ppm with us 2 in there. Hit 300ppm with him taking some of the frame down and 250ppm when I just went in for a couple more pics.
