Hey everyone, a while back I bought golden cobra seeds from Moxie and grew one of them. It turned into the best pot I have smoked since I could remember, and the smell oh the smell. I had friends who dont even smoke who couldn't leave my jars alone. Unfortunately I dont think you can get these seeds anymore so I want to try and revive the line or at least something close. I did manage to grab a set of Goji Cobra reg seeds before they went out of stock as well to try and breed with. But unfortunately only 1 out of the 12 seeds sprouted and I dont know if its male or female yet. Im hoping its a male, but if its not I also snagged a bunch of C99 from BrothersGrimm that I'll also cross it with. I figure at least there will be some wild strains along the way to BX the Cobra.

The set up is a 5x4 tent with a 1x4 area sectioned off that I plan on keeping the mothers in. I'll probably run into size problems as they grow but its the best I can do for keeping a mother separate from the flowering plants.
The light in the grow side is a mars300 and Ill be using a PerfectSun CoB for the flower side.
I used Earth Juice over the summer and liked the results with my outdoor plants so Im gonna try and use them here as well. Im still nervous about the ph, its always crazy high but the summer plants never showed a bit of stress so dont fix what isnt broke, right?
Soil for the mothers is FFOF with some added crab meal, fish bone meal, and oyster flour. For the flowering plants it will just be FFOF. All in 3 gal grow bags.

DW -- Good luck on your project !-- I hope U find what U looking for -- I just wanted to comment on the mothers thing -- I ran a White Widow for 4 and a half years cloning from clones -- Not a problem-- I'm not sure U need mothers -- I run Aero under LEDs and at one time I was maintaining about 2 dozen varieties in about 1 square meter -- The breeding thing gets under your skin -- Pollen can get loose easily so be careful or everything will have seed !-- I breed small plants I'll bloom an 8 inch tall male and as soon as he about to open flowers I bring him back to veg -- He will still open enough flowers to give U the pollen U need !-- I turned a BlackBerry Snow Lotus male loose on clones from about a dozen varieties -- They told me the BBSL "Bring the fire "-- He did me right !-- Still sorting out what I got -- I plan on going back on some with another dose of Snow Lotus with a male !-- I been slapping some Indicas around for a couple generations -Like Snow Desiel -x- BBSL -- She got no fancy flavor but she come at U like a freight train -- She don't play - Not really trying to replicate anything -- Down here in Texas it's not like I can run down to the dispensery and get a couple grams of some new variety to try !-- I'm relocating but I got seed I bred burning a hole in my pocket -- A Blueberry with a chocolate dad for one !

Thanks, I'll probably need the luck.
I could probably do what you did and take clones from clones as they start the flower to keep the line going but I've never tried to keep a mother longer than a few months. Im hoping to learn a few things about long term maintenance as time goes along. I may change my strategy as things progress though.
As for the males and the pollen, I have another 2x2 tent that I'll put up in another room temporarily for collecting the pollen.

I grabbed the first clones this weekend. 4-C99 in the back, 1-Goji Cobra in the middle, and 5-Golden Cobras up front. Nothing special, just CloneX and a humidome set for 78*.

I potted a few of the clones (4-C99 and 2 Golden Cobras) Also took a few more cutting of the Golden and Goji Cobra. Anyone have an opinion to when you should put clones into the soil? I put them into dirt as soon as I see roots starting to poke out of the starter plug, but everyone I see usually has roots hanging 2-4 inches out of the plug. Does that make much of a difference, should I be letting the roots grow a bit more?

The C99 and Goji are starting to look a bit like males while the Golden Cobra is preflowering. The Goji Cobra is growing with 3 sets of branches instead of 2. So that's always cool to see something different now and then.

Garden is moving along nicely, I have a few more clones in the larger portion of the tent and a couple more to come. Im hoping to get about 15 in there before I switch to 12/12 but I plan on doing that on New Years day, so we shall see if they root in time.
My Cinderella 99 started to show pre-flower so she is a she! It will be my first C99 both growing and smoking, I hear great things so Im excited.

I do have a question about males and preflowering. Do they do it like the females? Will they show their balls without the light switch?
If they do show themselves before the light switch does that mean they also drop premature pollen?
As of right now its not a huge issue if it pollinates the others, it is the goal here anyways. But I would like to keep at least 2 of each C99 and Golden Cobra from being seeded.

Anyways here's some updated pictures. I tied some over and topped a couple, most I left as is. Just seeing how they react to the different training styles.

Well the tent if filling up nicely. I added a bunch more clones and will be turning to 12/12 either next week or the week after. As soon as the latest clones start to sturdy up Ill make the switch.
I also added a humidifier, long over due. In just the 2 days the little stragglers have perked up quite a bit. The over all environment runs 68-75* @ 50%rh at the floor of the tent and 77-83* @45%rh above the light.
I shall see if the humidity rises much from the new addition.

dogweed, your plants are looking great! i grew some cindy this year, she proved reluctant, but still took it to harvest. got some really nice buds though, from a 3' plant.
i am not familiar with the other strain you have. can you tell me more about the golden cobra?

Thank you. The Golden Cobra was a limited run from Moxie. When I grabbed them I had no clue what I was getting, I just wanted something with fruity flavor. Its a Grape Kush x Tangie sativa leaning hybrid. The one I grew prior to this grow turned out more of a hybrid that had a very unique fruit salad aroma. The buds dried up to about the size of chicken eggs and where dense and super oily. It was exactly what I was looking for.

size of chicken eggs?? i am envious! that would only be a dream for me. since you like a flavourful bud, have you considered some maui or gold leaf?

Honestly they weren't even on my radar. Ill have to look into them before my next bean buy.

I've been fighting an issue with what looks to be Mag deficiency in the Golden Cobras. They seem to respond to extra CalMag but it keeps coming back so Im thinking it may be a pH issue or over watering. I scratched in some dolomite lime and got an Igloo to bubble the Earth Juice in.
Does anyone have any input on bubbling Earth Juice? I use Grow, Bloom, Catalyst, Big Bloomin Guano in the regular feed and every other week I'll add meta-k, micro and soy-Ful to the mix and brew for 18-50hrs (depends on work schedule). I'll be adding the humic acid to the mix when it arrives.
Is there anything else I should toss in the jug too to help feed everything?

As you can see a few clones took off like race horses and a couple hung back hoping for the tortoise win. I also got rid of a few clones to make room and the 5 in small pots will be gone soon as well.

Did the 12/12 thing today for the clones and started to drop the light about a foot. I'll keep lowering it a few inches every couple of days until the plants tell me to back off. Both Cinderella and Golden Cobra should take about 55-60 days, so here's to a clean smooth flower time.

I also took the choppers to the mothers and cut them way way back. My housing situation is changing soon so Im hoping to get them their own tent and give them a bit more room.

And here is a quicky of the Male. He has his own tent now and will hopefully be a lottery hit for good genetics. So far I see nothing wrong with it, it didnt stretch much but didnt bunch up and get too over grown with leaves either. It has a pretty sweet smell as well, so fingers crossed.

At what time should I try to pollinate the females, how long should I wait until I dust them? Should I hit them as soon as I see pistils or wait until they're more like cotton balls?

This last week has been mostly pollen collecting. Turns out that it's a much more tedious job than I thought it would be but not hard. I placed a c99 and golden cobra into the male tent and I will pull a couple out of the main tent to pollinate a couple of branches. Again does anyone have any info on when the pollination should happen? My males look like they will be done putting out new pollen in a couple of days and the females have barely started to show pistils, both went to 12/12 at the same time.

And this is what the C99 looks like in the Pollen tent. I've never intentionally pollinated before and I feel they just aren't ready for it yet, does anyone know when the effective time is for pollination?

And just a few update pics of the females.

I have never tried but this is from Jorge Cervantes’ book. I hope this helps.

Thank you, was a tough read but it did actually answer a question I had.

glad it helped. good book but I get a lot better info on MP. I didn’t read it all so I could not answer your question. I got seedy buds my last grow without a male(hermies or something though no male flowers). I have been told to toss the seeds but saw one great grower here has used his self pollinated seeds to grow some monster and plants do I am hoping I luck out and get some feminized seeds. I think I had light leaks in my tent because my butthead cats think it is a scratching post and climbing tree...

They can smell the goodness inside, lol. I've grown from self seeded plants and I had no problem with them, just gotta keep an extra eye open for male parts so they dont pollinate the whole tent.
