What's the best desktop(brand) you can buy? I'm going to get a new comp, want something good, for a reasonable price. Thnx!:aok:

Most computer companies don't manufacture their own parts. They just buy the components, stick em in a box and stick the company logo on them.

Every model contains different parts so its hard to reccommend one manufacturer ... you get good models and bad models.

Personally I would stay away from Dell. As a computer engineer this is probably the brand I see most problems with.

Hp are usually pretty reliable and their after sales service is pretty efficient (very important).

If you buy in a shop and you have a problem you can go back to the shop.

Because Dell don't sell in a retail outlet you can't bring it back ... you have to talk to some muppet on the phone.

peace :)

Okay, is there any models you would recommend? Glad I read this...I was considering a Dell! Thnx!!!

Get a AlienWare computer. I heard there tottaly awesome. They also look really cool.

Hey bombbudpuffa, what do you plan on using the computer mainly for ?

If its just for general use, bit of internet, e-mail, music, copy cd/dvds etc.
you don't need anything too expensive. Just about any computer will do that nowadays.

If you plan to use it for gaming you'd have to shell out an extra few quid.

What kind of budget do you have ? and what country are you in ?

You're right there Droster, they are a beautiful machine but you need to have a couple of spare grand falling out of your pocket to buy one. Would be a bit out of my price range anyway.

peace :)

I'm in the US and I want something for recording and mixing music. I'm looking at $700 at the most, maybe a lil more. I know I would need a good processor and lots of RAM but there's so many desktops! Thnx.

Your best bet for that amount of $$ is to either go to Best Buy and get one of the HP's that they sell there. HP makes good systems for not too much $$. OR, depending on how much you know about systems, go to a retail computer store and buy all of the components and build it yourself. If you go with the prefab HP, you may want ot invest in a new sound card as the HP's tend to use an onboard card and since you want it for tunes, get a decent sound card and a PHAT set of new speakers.... 5.1 preferably Hope this helps

Take a look at this one. Decent soundcards are pretty cheap these days.
You could get a good one on ebay pretty cheap.

peace :)

Sony Man I Just Bought 3 (one Laptop.)

Never bought anything from them but have heard a lot of bad **** about Tiger Direct. Do a Google search and you will see what I mean.

We had a Dell desktop that is still going strong. Granted it's old and slow...almost 7 yrs old. ;)

I am LOVING my HP laptop I got at Circuit City for $700. I have wireless internet as well. I could never ever go back to a desktop...never ever ever.

Thnx eryone...think ill get a HP and add anyting I need that it doesn't come with.

I agree with that!!!! Why people buys those huge heavy machines when you can have one that does exactly the same and it weights much less and you can bring it wherever you like....:)

Hey Runbyhemp, what about an Apple with a Windows system? I have a Packard Bell but I love how the Apple looks like!!

That's exactly what my B Ball team of children would think! No laptops for me.

i like big tower cases , but i have a nice toshiba laptop to for my mobile needs

this my way of finding information for growing ...:headbang:  :fly:

computers are computers, if you dont build your own, then their pretty much all the same meaning, the more you pay the more you get. BUT STAY AWAY FROM DELL!!! i just hate dell....... -fry's pc tech

I used to build computers for a living (im a student now though). did it for years. I am a certified HP/compaq, Dell and Sun microsystems technician. TBH, i wouldnt get a branded machine unless you want the fun of building it yourself. Also, branded machines are much more expensive than a self build.

If u REALLY want to get the most out of your money, buy all the bits seperately and build it yourself. seriously, building a computer is as simple as pie. If you want my recomendation, start with the processor (i run AMD 4000+ 64 bit 939 pin) and work down from that. You may want to get the new intel duo (but its pricey). But start with the CPU, get a motherboard that fits that CPU, get Sata hard drives, a power supply (that is almost always supplied with new cases), a graphics card (if you want to run any 3D programs), a DVD/RW and if you really wanna have decent sound quality for music mixing etc, i recomend Creative X-fi.

Hope that was of some use...
