Currently I have 17 plants(unsexed) in a 3.2'x3.2'x6.6' under a 600mh.. When I flip the switch I plan on ending up with +-8 females, but Im not sure if I will keep them all.. Ive read journals where people did 5 in my area, then others did 9.. Im trying to get a lb dry off this harvest.. This monday will make 5 weeks my plants have been under the 600mh and they are lookin really nice and bushy! I plan on putting the 600hps bulb in and putting the light back to 12 hours right after the 6th week of veg..
Concerning the # of plants, what do you guys honestly belive my best bet is to get a dry lb or as close as possible(highest yield)? This is my first grow, but it is doing so well!

Thanks guys!

honestly, an elbo your first time out. lol. and i mean out loud. even my dog is howlin'.
1) upgrade the space
2) 1000w
3) choose your genetics very carefully:eek:

well, this is a brand new system so Im not upgrading anything right now.. if I do anything itll be later down the road, and ill probably add another 600 to the mix.. I already have a homebox small(2.6'x2.6') with a 400mh for a veg chamber.. so i figured for now if i have a couple of mothers in veg, take clones and do a sog, with a nice yielding 50 day strain i can harvest quite a bit..

I know its a long shot, but I would like to get as close as possible to a lb dry this first harvest.. I have 17 very pretty plants right now.. a lb dry off a 600 watt comes up to about .75 g per watt. if I can get close to that it would be really nice.. doesnt have to be a lb of course.. what do u think my best bet is, # of females, to achieve maximum yield?

So, how many females do u guys think i should keep?

10 to 20 grams per plant is ballpark, I understand. Id say, keep ALL your fems.

Pick your 4 largest fem and only flower them scrog. Pay VERY close attention to your ph, temp over your plants, humidity, and you MUST have excellent ventalation dont let the temp rise over 78 degrees , MAX temp would be 80 degrees. You will get more dry weight from a hydro grow than a soil grow.

You need a larger tent period, your plants need light, air, and high quality nutes, I only use Fox Farm nutes, my friend uses Canna, you can have the best lights, etc, but if you feed your plants cheap nutes you WILL get cheap resolts on your dry weight.

Buy an Adjust-A-Wing Medium Reflector and the Medium Super Spreader attachment that goes under the bulb you will be able to put this reflector 6 to 8" from the tops of your plants its the best reflector for flowering mj.

One pound dry weight off a 600 watt is possible but I highly doubt you will get it on your first try. Do you have any pictures of your garden? We would be able to better guess if we could see your plants and setup. I would definitely keep all of your females to fill up your growspace. In order to get a maximum yield, you would probably be better off doing a SOG or SCROG in that area with clones and throw them almost immediately into 12/12 so you get basically a stem with a bud on it. Look up SOG and SCROG and see what you think about that. Just my thoughts. Take care and be safe.

i agree clones are a much better way to get bigger yields. some plants are better at the single stalk and sog and others that branch out are better for scrog. i have always found that yield and quality do not go hand in hand. i like the uber potent weed that kicks you hard. i don't care about getting a particular weight. finding that perfect plant is why so many people keep growing from seed, to find that holy grail. of course thats different for everybody

you get the right fertz( my fav foxfarm) and you will get a pound with 8 plants easy. veg them for a good while, keep the ph right and you should be alright with that setup you got, and your gonna do sog, yeah dude your gonna be set.

Remember just because alot of other people dont get a full pound out of their first grow doesnt mean you cant.

Im sure a air cooled hood or cool tube would be much more effecient, though i can see where that could be beneficial if ya ant got the dough at the time to throw down on one. I use the wing my first time through. But i could never do with out my hood now.

here are some specs on my grow..
strains, stinky sweet pea and cave..
they have been vegging for 4 wks now under a 600mh, after wk 6 of veg im flipping the lights to the 600hps.
soil is fox farm ocean forest.. im using all fox farm nutes too. last watering I gave the plants 1/2 strength, time before that I started with 1/4 strength.. they are loving it..
the 600 is in a coolhood and I have found the range where I dont burn the tips, but Im keeping it as close as possible.. the tallest one is 16", they are really bushy plants.. I posted pics a while back, but havent been able to post new ones since my other computer is down at the moment.
This is the only grow Ill probably go from seedlings.. In my veg tent I have a dutch passion blueberry mother, blueberry clones, dinafem blue hash, dinafem cali hash, white label double gum, and lowlife hindu kush.. im obviously keeping the dutch passion blue for a mother, probably going to keep a double gum and a blue hash, so Ill have like 3 moms that Im going to make into bonsai moms.. from there on out I plan to maximize my yield with sog.. doing like 20-25 lolipopped plants..blue hash, cali hash, and double gum are all like 45-50 day strains.. I know Ill eventually dial in the system with the sog and achieve a lb dry every 50 days or so..
But until then I want to get as much as possible with my current grow.. 2 weeks left of veg then flippin the lights!

I wish you the best of luck. Be sure to keep us posted. Take care and be safe.

Baby steps... baby steps... After this grow you'll know how much is a realistic yield expectation. Until you've grown a specific strain in your room and see which techniques work the best for you, it's impossible to tell you to do A, B, and C and you'll get a pound for your first grow. You've got some good gear and it sounds like you're on your way. Going with strains that are known as being heavy producers will give you an edge on your quest but there are too many variables to make any guarantees. Look at the bright side... just a few oz's will hold you over til your following grow.

Good Luck!

My first grow was 7 plants under 2 600watt HPS in 4.5' x 8' x 8' high. I babied, nursed, cried, prayed, did everything I could possibly do and got .625 per watt. I was happy as a pig in slop.

Oh, and I vegged them until they declared sex at about 2 months.

Like DOS says: baby steps. This grow I topped, super-cropped, and generally broke them up--I'll get maybe .5 grams per watt and learned some valuable lessons about root bound plants and long vegging periods (but, oddly enough, this grow is definetly better smoke potency wise). So now I'm going for membership in the gram-a-watt club. Mostly, I'm having much fun.

I have a 3 x 6.5' space that I NEVER put more than 8 plants in and I find it is much better suited to 4-6 plants. For your space, I would not put more than 4 plants unless you get a good sog strain.

IMO, you should be learning to grow and not be so concerned with yield. Besides, there is no magic formula--there are simply too many variables. If you learn how to optimize YOUR grow, the yield will come. I think that you should have realistic expectations. I would say that if you get even a 1/2 pound, you should be very very happy with your first grow.

You say you would like to get .75 grams perr watt.....wow!. Ive been growin for 2 years now (not always with the best equipment or strain) and havent done better than .5 per watt. I've focused more on growing quality herb....but as goddess said, my yields have slowly and steadily come up as I tinker and dial-in. I've heard posts on cites that claim a gram per watt, but I'd have to see it firsthand and would prolly still be suspiscious.

Sorry blue- no hostility, directed or otherwise meant here but...
There is an awful lot more to it than just using the right nutes. Even keeping ph right will not guarantee results if the entire space is not dialed in effectively.

If ALL 17 plants are females, have no problems with light, growth, ect. You could get a pound for sure. GO FOR THE GOLD! Good luck.

Good luck with gettin 17 outta 17 females from bagseed. Your odds of getting 20 lbs. are better than 100% females from badseed.
