a different hps question

hi friends,with your experence with hps lights do they get dimmer with time and do you replace them before or after they blow. seems to me they would get dimmer. all thoughts on this are welcome. im talking about the ones you buy at lowes, ect

They dim over time. Eventually they burn out; replace them before this happens.

Your plants will tell you it's time to replace the bulb when they start to stretch. They do this because there's a lack of light, and they're trying to grow closer to the source.
