This has been on my mind for a little while now so i thought i would ask to get a few opinions on it what do you think is better during vegative. A 24 hour lighting schedule or the 18/6 schedule?

well 24 hr the are allways growing...so MO...24 hr veg is way better then 18/6 just my thaughts:bong:

I veg 24/7. Marijuana does not need a dark period and will photosynthesize all the time it has light available. There is no benefit to the plant whatsoever running an 18/6 light cycle over a 24/7 unless you cannot control the heat. In fact, plants in 18/6 veg will often stretch during the dark period causing an increase in internodal spacing. Sometimes it will appear that the plant has "grown", but an increase in internodal spacing is not really growth. IMO, an 18/6 light schedule just extends the veg period and/or increases the internodal spacing.

Some strains will stress out while being under 24/7 light for more than a week or 2, they will make Pre flowers and grow really tight nodes that will need to be thined (pruned out) to avoid too much popcorn bud. IMO the plant has more potential to grow a nicer spread of branches and bud sites under 18/6.

I did 18/6 my last 3 grows, and about the first 2 weeks of my current grow, but after doing some research and reading here, I switched mine to 24 on. I have noticed much tighter growth, and they are growing at a much faster rate. I had the same question a while back, because Jorge said in his original book that they needed the dark period to produce sugars I believe, but I recently bought his updated version and he had changed that saying that he no longer sees the benefit of the dark period. Hemp goddess pretty much swayed my thinking on it in the end though, I'm not sure she knows that, but she did. Thanks Hemp Goddess.

I've read previously a dark period is required for optimum root development, I think it was in Ed Rosenthals bible.

I will run 18/6 because ambient temps during the middle of the day are 30c+

I'm sorry, but IMO this is just not true--they do not get stressed. Preflowers indicate sexual maturity and mean that the plant is mature enough to be put into 12/12. You want tight internodal spacing. And they do not necessarily need to be thinned out. There are training techniques like scrog and lst. And it is far better to cut off some of the smaller buds if you want to and leave the fan leaves than it is to have a plant that has stretched.
