Anyone using this(vista)? If so, how is it? Should I just keep windows? I've heard some bad things about it...wanted to hear of any experience anyone had with it. I got a free upgrade but don't want to install it because all of the bad reviews it has. I also heard it's not compatible with alot of windows software.

Hey bombbudpuffa ,if I were you I would stick with XP for now. I find that vista is a bit sluggish. You need a very fast machineto run it and I believe that gaming is poor due to the fact that there is no true direct x 10 card to compliment it.

As with all operating systems there are a few teething problems, service packs and half a million patches. It would also prove difficult to find vista drivers for older devices. Some programs won't work.

I'm a techie and I reckon stick with XP. There's nothing Vista can do that XP can't.

I've got it on another computer. It's not worth the hassle of switching over. I haven't experienced any non-compatible software, but I've heard similar things. I played around with it a bit, but.. bleh. I don't like learning new a new OS. Don't expect it to revolutionize your computing experience, like they'd want you to believe.

Thanks, i'm glad I went with my gut feeling. I really don't want to learn a new os either.

I'm a computer nerd kinda... I run linux and other high tech stuff for my business... I tried vista a ton of times... It sucks, wont run anything, no drivers for half the stuff you own. MS dropped the ball on Vista. Not to mention none of my apps would work, the ones I need for work.

If you want to try something FUN, CHEAP that will blow you away I suggest trying UBUNTU linux, it is very customizable, you can basically make it look any way you want even like Windows, Vista, or Mac... and it's free to download and use!

The one program I actually needed, Quicken, is not compatible. Linux systems are by far the way to go. I use Linspire as well as Unbuntu and I would seriously recommend using the second as it is very user friendly, and as Diz stated, more customizable than a Honda Civic.

like any of MS OS, it will be at least a year before it is a good idea to run the new Vista setup. they are still trying to work buds...i mean bugs out of Xp, just look at what SP2 did for everyone. i'm a tech for a corp. and everyone at the user level wants this os due to the fact that it is..well. new. but it will be at least a few years before anyone gets it as it is sluggish, non-compiant with many programs, and forget easy user friendly. no such thing, i personally still run 2000 as it runs flawlwssly for me....but, what do i know, just my .02 cents

VISTA SUCKS BUT SURE ITS PRETTY :)

To be honest and to the point - Don't buy any Microsoft program until about 2-3 years after it is released. Why?

Microsoft is always in a mad rush to make a few bucks and so they release their programs which are still buggy and not by any means "perfect". This is why they are constantly sending out free "updates" for their new programs, to fix the problems that they overlooked or didn't consider a big enough problem to fix in the development stage.

Windows XP is your best bet for a few years until the BS with Vista is sorted out.

Also, if you're a gamer, DO NOT GET VISTA! Windows Vista blocks almost all games out there simply because of it's improved "security".

Vista is meant for people who use the PC for business-only purposes and those who want a PC equivalent to Fort Knox. (waste of time/money IMHO)

yup... Bill's almost broke, gotta get the cash flowing...:p

BTW...welcome home insane..

Thanks Hick, good to see ya old bud!

Well im glad everyone feels the same way about this i didnt want to be the only one posting about how vista is basically one big p.o.s.

Well it seems microsoft have finally decided to try and keep up with OSX (for those that dont know, its Apples OS, which is pretty nice, runs smooth, no problems etc).. Problem is they pretty much ripped it off.

So you could have XP, a not too stable, buggy OS that most people are familiar with, and know how to sort out the tiny annoying bugs that plague every day use, You could have OSX on a Mac, a real nice OS with no problems, hardly any crashing of any kind, although its kind of hard to navigate, OR you could have vista.. The style and looks of OSX with the buggyness and instability of Windows.

Man they need to get it right, if they wanna get back in the game there gonna have to shape up. Not rip off, Besides ive heard nothing good about the purchace arrangement with Vista. Its like $500 or something? even if you already OWN xp.

Well screw microsoft. Only reason i use a PC is it accomodates for the majority of things i wanna do, anything else will get done on the mac lol

Hey guys since I mentioned Kubuntu/Ubuntu figured i'd show you a screenshot and a link on where to get. I've also included a link to a bunch of other screencaps of kubuntu/ubuntu. It really is the best Linux suite. No virus's,no problems. I endorse the Kubuntu/Ubuntu suite because it comes loaded up with a bunch of a drivers, simple as windows to install.

Also most linux software is free open source alternatives to mainstream stuff that do the exact same thing.

Fond of ubuntu myself Dizoelio. Also playing around with Xandros at the moment. Any of ye ever tried it ?

I think Linux based systems are a lot easier to install. The drivers will "install themselves". That is as long as your software is compatible. Mandirva is a fun little system with it's 3D desktop...

thats what's great about linux and unix based systems, but many people don't know alot about them. possibly the greatest advantage for running linux would have to be that if you know a little programing, then it is almost impossible for viruses to replicate themselves in the regisry files as you can re-write your registry to your liking.

oh, yezh i almost forgot...........Vista be-lows!!
