I will only be growing 2 - 3 plants at a time. Do I have to go the more expencive lights or could I use cfls? If i can use cfl what lights do I need for the vegetative cycle and the flowering cycle?

The space I would use is a walkin closet, I have cleaned it out and am ready to start getting the need eq together. Any help would be great.

Thanks

You can use cfl's but T5's are better and HID's are best.

What are your room dimensions?

The space that I would start with would be 4feet / 5feet.

Do you mean 4' x 5'? If so, IMO, this is far too large to try and light with CFLs. Your initial costs, your operating costs, and your heat would be higher and your yield would be less. Unless you are in a fairly small space, it makes financial sense to go with HID lighting.

Would it be best to split the space up for differant grow cycles? One tent for seedlings, one for veg, one for flowering?

I like having separate spaces. I have 2 spaces--a veg closet and a flowering closet. I use a 4' T5 fixture in my veg closet, which is 2 x 4 x 4. I have a 1000W HPS in my flowering closet which is 3 x 6.5 x 7.5.

Is it still ok to use cfl for seedlings and how long do you leave them under cfls?
Thanks for the help I will be buying my lights this week.

If you use cfl's for seedlings, which I think you can. I got a 2pk of 26 watt 2700 Kelvin 1600 lumen at wall mart for about 8 bucks. I will let the other answer how long. I'm a noob. Good luck.
