Hello, Top gear is a very popular Uk tv programme about cars basically and i was watching it last night and what they where doing was a road trip from Florida up and through Alabama. During the Road trip they were set challenges, one of these challenges was yo write what they thought would be the most offensive thing that they could think of (to someone from Alabama) on the side of their cars and drive across alabama. What they wrote was things like " Man Love rules - ok!" , "Nascar ****!", " I hate country and western!" and " Hillary for President!". Half way through the journey they stopped for petrol and within 10minutes a group of men turned up in a pick-up and started hurling rocks at them and their camera crew:eek:. I was just really shocked at the extreeme reaction by these people and just wanted to know, would that really happen??? And what people think about it? To be fair if you happen to be wearing the wrong football (soccer:p) shirt in the wrong place in England you could end up getting the crap beaten out of you but its slightly differant.

Would it really happen...it happened didn't it??lol. That kind of behaviour is expected world-wide when it comes to certain matters

i been watching top gear a long long time, like, back when it was a car review program and less of the jokes, and im pretty sure a lot of there pranks are staged, but it still makes for one hell of a show, jeremy clarkson is a comic genius lol

Yea i know what you mean about it being staged, its normally painfully obvious, but this didnt really look staged. I know that kinda thing would happen all over the world, but just thought as its America people might allow other people to express themseleve without having rocks thrown at them.

Expressing one self is not the same as insulting people.

The former will usually garner tolerance, the latter will find you trouble in whatever country you're in.

It's really that simple.

You can go to any country on the planet and get yourself in lots of trouble by insulting people.

I find it odd that you would think Americans would be any different.

Yea i understand that. If youd seen it you might understand why i asked about it, they just seemed to get really angry over not very much at all. I never understood Nascar anyway ;)

Well, I've seen it now. What I've seen is a couple of immature, antagonistic people who intentionally painted insults on their vehicle and traveled through an area that those insults would have the most effect.

The anger was because of an obvious, IN YOUR FACE, intended insult. Not specific to the actual words, but to the intended insult.

I see that they were just smart enough to take the offencive insults off their cars and run like hell to get away from the people they intentionally insulted.

I live in the DEEP DEEP SOUTHERN USA. Had they done that in my area, they may well have been gator crap by now.

I think anyone who thinks that is something to do should wait until they mature enough to be in public by themselves.

I doubt this is the answer you were looking for, but it's an honest one.

How about if someone from Alabama drove through rural parts of England with "The Queen is bisexual" painted in bright paint on their car? How long do you figure it would take for some English Rednecks to come out and beat their butts?

I've been to England. I've heard locals say what they would do to someone like that.

As I said, it's the same everywhere you go.

If you go out to insult someone, expect to find problems.

Yeah, actually if you drove through rural england with "the queen is bisexual" written on the side of your car, you'd probably get the odd elderly woman peeking through her window too afraid to leave the house and the ocasional honk of disaproval... lol. but i know what your saying, comedy and stupidity go hand in hand,

but the average English sence of humor is completely ironic and sarcastic, so i can see how this is humorous, no matter where they were and who they were nocking..

my two cents,

Yeah, didn't even watch the link after Stoney's post (I agree) cause I don't wanna ruin my buzz, but I remember seeing that show and they stage alot of gags and leave the open connotation it is real.

Money and TV are the root of evil...LOL.

Sorry stoney if i offended you didnt intend to, im just curious about what other people think of this, i get the feeling you wont reply to any of my posts now!:confused2: . what The_riz said couldnt be more true. 9 outta 10 English people have no care for the Queen whatsoever and looking at the history of the English royal family, i wouldn't suprised if she was bisexual. I think that most English people would avoid a confrontment at any cost (Unless weve had too much alcohol, which most of us have, most of the time) which is why i find it hard to understand why these people got so angry about this. Perhaps we brits are hard to offend? Or maybe we just have no pride..?

^hahaha @ no pride.Difference in culture I guess?

You haven't offended me man. Within each of our cultures, there are things that are different from one another. With my memory, I won't remember who it was that posted this thread tomorrow. I was explaining my point of view, nothing else.

I guess you'd have to visit the same places I did in England. The guys I ran into were way different then what you describe. Of course, at that time of my life, I spent most of my off duty Army time in pubs or with the ladies of the night...It may have been the class of folks I was hanging with.

agree with stoney i have fam in bama and i dont see anything crazy goin on when im there like burning crosses or hangings but like stoney said you go anywhere talkin **** and you can bet someone will stand up and make you sit down

Yea i understand where your coming from Stoney. I was just wondering if its really a stonable offence to say you dont like country and western or that you're going to vote for Hillary Clinton ( I dont understand why they wouldn't like that? have very little knowledge of American politics)

It's not so much what was said, as how it was presented. Had those same guys had a quiet drink with the same people and said that they hated Nascar and would vote for Hillary, then they would have only met with mild argument.

But they didn't. They painted it on the side of their cars like some sort of an "In your face insult". They did this with the intent of doing exactly what they did. They caused insult. When someone causes insult on purpose, it's not the words, but the action of insulting that is answered.

Do you really not understand this?

completely, and its totally understandable if it /is/ real and not staged..

and offspring: especially in the state of texas, the people are pretty pro bush as far as im aware, and (at the risk of causing an argument) rather old fasioned with regards to female polotics...

correct me if im wrong,

..I ain't from the south, but I been gatherin up "throwin stones" for two days, hopin' the pass through here...

..on the other hand, I'm haveing a hard time recalling any riots/fights with a loss of life and/or serious injury, at any of our "American" football stadiums...

Yeah its great huh, im a big NFL fan even though im from england, Ive been to several games in america and the only place ive had trouble was in Oakland lol... nutter raiders fans!
