too much light?

im new to this so work with me i was wondering if i could have too mmuch light i was thinking of working with a 1 million candle power light which is about 12,566,370 lumens which is way over the 39,000 lumens i need for my grow space will this stop photosynthesis i ask this because this is a whopping 966,000 lumens per ft/2 way over the min. of 3,000 lumens

Well JD i don't know what to tell ya as i have never seen a light that puts out that many lumens. Do you have a link or pic of it by any chance?

Heat is your only problem with lights. If you can control heat, you could add as many lumens as you'd like.

well its a 1,500,000 cp spotlight it uses a quartz halogen bulb i know it will be a tight beam of light but i plan to just reflect it off the walls which are covered with aluminium foil i also plan to have a co2 producer with it to utilize as much as possible of the light for photosynthesis or it will be a waste of light co2 will be in a very high concentration http://12voltproducts.com/Roadpro/ProPages/RPSC-804.html its something very close to this one candlepower equivalent equals 12.57 lumens

i can control the heat all becuse the light does not need to be close with all that power i also have a old ac if needed

You can buy flashlights that are 1 million candlepower -- I had one once that would light up a small area like daylight -- and that area was about 2 blocks away. If you look into those lights at night, it's like looking into the sun. So, they are bright alright -- but those halogen bulbs are completely unsuitable for a grow. The spectrum for that light will be completely wrong for a grow and your plants will not do anything at all. Check out CFLs or a HID light. I know that 20 bux for a light is an attractive price, but it is gonna take a bit more than that. That said, CFLs and several hanging reflectors are not terribly expensive.

Also, you don't want to use aluminum foil on your walls -- it creates hot spots. If you do use it, make sure to place the dull side out. Even then, aluminum foil has much lower reflectivity than just painting your walls flat white.

thank you very much i dident know the spectrum of the light so it was a thought but right now i have a week old under a 23w 6500k cfl and a 23w cfl dont know the k but its more orange the other is a bright white

it clames it is a super white light and white light has mostly equal energy levels of red,green,blue if i could find one with a rating of 3000k would that be good for flowering

It tells you everything you need to know about CFLs. I think he also has a grow journal that compares plants raised under CFL to some raised under HPS. The plants he grows under CFLs are pretty sweet. They are cheap and easy to arrange around your plants. Plus they don't put out really intense heat. Be careful though -- some of them, especially the bigger 42 watt CFLs can burn plants so check them with the back of your hand. Put the back of your hand right at the top of your plant for one minute. If your hand gets pretty warm, move the light away a bit. You'll veg plants really well with CFLs. Flowering is a bit trickier. Most still use HID for that, but it can be done with (a lot of) CFLs.
