I'm brand new to growing but an old hand at smoking. I'm getting low and I lost my supplier. I'm also retired and have a lot of time on my hands. I intend to design and build an ultimate stealth growbox (the "USG"). I happen to live in a tropical environment but the growbox would also be suitable for a garage. You are invited (and requested!) to provide input, opinions, information and feedback! As the USG develops, I will document the project with pictures, parts list, etc.
Why Am I Doing This?
Because I don't want to read 150,000+ threads all over the internet just to collect enough information to build a good, solid, basic growbox.
The basic design parameters follow:
- all materials to be used need to be easily obtainable. I'm in the US and prefer parts easily obtainable at a local HDepot, etc, for cash.
- the box itself is a yet-to-be-determined Rubbermaid (or similar) type outside/dock storage type vertical cabinet. It will blend in nicely with my pool equipment box and will appear very innocuous;
- the box is to be automated (fans on timers, etc), all that will need to be done is fertilizing and watering;
- all electrical to be fully safe and straightforward;
- the box needs to be basic and highly functional, very quiet and simple as possible.
What do you think? To get started, here is what I'm thinking the right box might look like.
- approx 6 feet tall - I want the exhaust venting at the top. The basic idea is to remove a piece of the top, put in a mesh screen, mount the fan inside the box at the top which will vent through the screen. A 6 ft tall person will see a mesh screen top and assume it's for ventilation of the stored ummm, fishing equipment and life preservers.
- so approx 6 ft tall by 3 ft by 4 feet, something like that.
The next thing I'm wondering is whether it will have one or two compartments - I guess I'd like some input on separate veg and flowering compartments and sizes of those compartments.
Well, that's it for now, I'm looking forward to hearing from you!
