If you guys are willing, i think it'd be really useful and informative if everyone pitched in their knowledge on how to spot good soil from bad soil in the great outdoors. I know its always prefered to bring soil out there, but if you have good soil, you might as well use it.
I'll start off, If its a prairie type area, with tall grass, and when you dig down a bit, you find that there is layer upon layer of old dead grass, this shows that this soil has sustained life for a long period of time, and that the dead grass is decomposing and putting nutrients back into the soil.
