Hey people, when determing light requirements for a grow box, are you measuring length times width only? Or does height figure into it also. I have a grow cabnet 4 ft wide by 3 ft. deep and 5 ft. in height. Is a 400 watt MH enough for this size space? Veg.

yes most def my friend, and yes lengthxwidthxheight=total cubic feet, now go to the front of the class, haha, enjoy

Thank you, I thought so but was not sure.

you have 12 square feet..grow space..take that 12 feet and times your hight..you get cubic feet.60cf..this you need to know for air exchange..that 400 is fine.. take care and be safe

Hello ziggyross.

Opinions may vary a little on this subject, but IMHO you're a little "light" on your light for a 12 foot space. You'll only have about 2500 lumens/sq ft and will not get very good light penetration. Again, many will say for veg 2500 lumens is sufficient but unless you're trying to grow more than 6 plants in that space, I would consider cutting it down a bit.

If you intend to use the same space for flower and will be replacing your mh with a hps, you will most definitely want to add more light.

Good luck to you.
