Hola

A friend of mine had some kind of irritant(?) light with he's 600w hps while he was budding. An extra light what looked like a normal cfl but gave some kind of special light that was supposed to give some kind of stimulant to the plant to yield more. I've lost contact to this friend so I thought I ask if anyone here has heard anything about this kind of thing. Dont remember was it UV or what.
And does it have any benefits or just a useless gimmick.

Thanks

Once I have buds forming I am going to try a uv-b bulb to see if it increases the trics.Check out my '09 journal

Hello Parcero-

I don't know what your friend was using, but as the others here have said there is alot being said about the UVB spectrum and how it affects both the conversion of THCA to THC and also in the production of trichomes.

I'm currently running a test with UVB lighting- I'm using a mercury vapor reptile basking bulb which has much greater output than the cfl types rated at 5.0 or 10.0.

I've been using the bulb throughout the grow (including the veg stage)- but only giving it to 3 plants to see if there is any noticeable difference in trichome production. Early indications are good, as much of the plants are starting to show capitate sessille trichs, even on the fan leaves- and I'm not yet seeing any on the plants that are not getting the UVB. We'll see if there's a difference when the stalked trichs start showing.

Good luck to you. Happy Growing:)

Yep

That sounds like the one, UV-B.
Might get one of those then if they're not too expensive.
Keep it on the whole 12h a day?

Thanks guys

Be well

I paid about $50 US. The mercury vapor is a self ballasted bulb, so it's a little expensive.

I expose them for 2 hours a day, and I'll slowly up that as they progress in flower. Most things I've read say to start them off slowly and up the exposure over time. I plan on getting to 4 hours a day.

Ok, thanks BBFan

I might just get one of those "normal" uvb bulbs or maybe I'm able borrow from my friend who has couple of turtles.
