I have a house with an outbuilding, and a double garage bigger than the house and outbuilding combined. The house is around 40' x 40' (1600 sq ') and the garage is around 90' x 20' (1800 square '). People who have solar paneling, what would it cost (approximately) to install it on two buildings of these sizes? I eventually want to power my grow (at least 2000 total watts) off the sun.

Last I looked, too much to get into it and then, you're working with their projected energy production.

Someone went over this kind of thing not long ago. Like Roddy says, part of what it will cost (how many panels you would need) is determined by the number of sunshine days you get and where you live. However, as I remember just the cost of the storage batteries was astronomical. I think they were talking tens of thousands of dollars.

there is a read up in Maxium Yeild about this.. jan feb addition..
they say you are gonna need 3 200w panes at 1k a peice thats not installed..
then you will need a way to store the power.. and also gonna need a grid inverter to convert the dc into ac...which will need to be slightly bigger than 400w.. looking lil over 300$.. so just for pannels n iverter.. your looking at 3300 not installed n no bateries for 1 400w..

hope this helps..

we in ca have many rebate/incentive/subsidy programs local/state/and federal for solar conversions and supplements---the power company even has a buy back program for excessive power you produce and sell to them for the grid---sounds real practical to run a couple lights if you don't mind the panels on your roof---it takes a lot of panels---the technology has improved, but not enough for me just yet---call your power company and they will give you the skinny---they will help set up you up with cost analysis, installers everything you need---

today's junk mail---"no electric bill for a year plus a check from edison"---from a company touting membership in the California Solar Industry Association---

You don't need battery backup, and generators. Unless you want to be off the grid, or risk of power outages a lot. All you need is a grid tie system. What you make goes to the electric co, and you are credited for how much you produce. Payed if you make more than you use. I would love to, but the start up cost is pretty pricey.
