:ciao:Hello fellow growers ... I'd like some feedback on this if you don't mind ... I have a HPS 430W I'm using for my flower level ... I'm thinking ... when I have the cash ... of replacing it with a 250W HPS and a 250W MH ... two reasons ... one ... for a better light spectrum ... two ... the bulbs for 430W are expensive ... I could replace both 250W at half the cost of a 430W ... plus not all store carry it. I have a 150W HPS on the flower level as well ... I plan to keep that ... I will have 650W for a 4X2 area ... that should be enough light ... an extra 70W shouldn't be too bad ... so what do you think?:confused2:

Oh and one other thing ... I was thinking of getting a ballast kit ... it would be cheaper than buying the lamp ... the only problem is finding a container to hold the ballast and what not ... has to be something that can handle the heat ... I've been doing an online search for one in the states but so far nothing ... any suggestions?

Is there anyone that can give me an idea of where I can get a metal container ... $10 to hold the inners for a 250W HID? Anyone?

OK, First I would stick with full HPS in the flower area..... I would beleive your 600 watt light is plenty for a 4x2... I think it would be fine with a lil more area... it would depend on your reflector.... I use a 400 for about that same area and it works great for me...../shrug.. Strain you are growing will affect that also.

The trouble with the 150-250W HDs is their lack of penetrating power. You can get a 400W HPS for $100. Your lighting is the single most important part of your grow with respect to yield.

Is that a build 400W HPS? I haven't seen any that cheap ... besides I would like to have both MH and HPS for my flowering plants ... two 400W would be too much heat ... it's hot enough already ... 250 is what is required for my grow ... I think it would be much more beneficial with both lights ... I feel I will get a much better yield with that combination ...
... so any ideas where to get ballast containers cheap? ... or a reasonable facsimile? ...

You could look into a Hortilux HPS bulb to go into a watt light..... I read somewhere that there is added blue spectrum light generated by the bulb..

$100 HPS lights are common.... Look at

www.HTGSUPPLY.com Look on their 'Specials' page. They almost always have a 400 their for right around that price.

I don't know why you believe that it would be more beneficial. You don't need both MH and HPS for flowering--HPS provides superior flowering. Most growers do not use MH at all for flowering--only HPS.

You get a better light spectrum with both HPS and MH ... I've seen posts where growers have used MH for flowering and get good results ... the plants are more compact ... I can't see how using both wouldn't be better ... and cheaper to maintain ... so still looking for a cheap metal container that will hold the ballast(s) ...

Thanks for the link ... I used a computer power supply housing for my 150W HPS, but I don't have any more and I don't think it will be big enough ... good info though ...

Not for flowering.

I am aware that HPS is the light of choice for most growers, but some growers are reporting that the MH light has a UVB light that increases trichome production ... with both lights ... mostly HPS ... I see no reason why I wouldn't get good results ... can you give any reason why I would not with both? My 430 HPS main feature is the extra 30W producting a blue light ... I'm merely increasing the blue ... :ignore:
