my buddy wants to check the room temperature before the grow. how long is long enough to run the light to see what the normal operating temperature of the room will be? 1000w in a 6'x6'x8' room. thanks. gimlet.

thats about the same size room i use 3x8x7. It seems to get to running temp about 2-3 hours.

ok. the reason i ask is because he has about 3 options for ventilation and is going to try all of them to get the coolest temps. i wouldn't have asked otherwise.:) right now it's holding steady at 86* for about an hour and a half. how is that for temps? thanks for the reply. gimlet.

ok. he's got 90* 32" directly below the light. which brings up another question. where are your thermometers when you check temps? he could probably move it 12" and the thermometer might read 5* cooler. gimlet.

85 is about the max without any major detrimental affects to bud growth. My 1000 watt is 5' from the floor. I also attached an 8" inline vent to the top of the light instead of off to the side

This type of setup, for me, works well with maintaining temps at around 80f.

Over 85* and the leaves begin to curl for me. My small closet gets to 85* in about 15 minutes with my 400 watt hps and the door closed. When I open the door it takes about 1/2 an hour to get to 85* where it usually stays. And that's the indoor/outdoor thermometer with the outdoor sensor right by the tops of the plant, around 11" from the bulb.
