i got my RO system today and called a plumber ASAP.does 100-150 bucks sound normal for this?i bought my last 2 cases of distilled water today.yippppeee

$100 for install isnt bad if he is clean about it..... it's really easy to DIY though

Plumbing in a RO system would be easy to do yourself. Depending on the type of plumbing in your house.Either soldering or gluing.

Hooray on the no more hauling of water! I think, that might just be my next purchase.:)

still got the 'ol tap water here, and a big bottle of ph down.:hubba: ... sweeet andy. carry'in water in the snow really bites don't it? 'specially when you got 6 cases in a grocery cart, trying to push it through 6 inches of snow. it just don't work well...bb...

andy, im gonna buy an RO unit myself, but the hydro guy said it hooks up to a water hose, did i miss something???? Why do you need help with the install, just curious

I don't have a clue what your hydro guy is talking about, but it is not an RO. I have never seen or heard of an RO system that hook up to a hose. RO systems are generally installed under a kitchen sink. There is a (usually) a 4 or 5 stage filter system with a small expansion tank that holds a store of water. A separate faucet supplies the RO's water. You also need a line hooked to the drain, because an RO system bypasses a lot of water to help preserve the filters. For example, it is not uncommon to "use" 5 gal of water to get 1 gal of RO water.

Andy--plumbing rates vary widely around the country, but I would think that the install should be able to be accomplished in an hour or so. I installed my own RO system at my old house.

interesting, yeah, i used to work on the RO machine on my ship in the navy, but that was a little bit different, lol, but yeah when i asked the hydro guy, he said he hooked his up to the garden hose, i see what your saying but if a garden hose will connect, then the waste water can be discarded outside, however, if i can get a proper install under the sink, you better believe thats how im going to do it.

ps, could i install it in my upstairs bathroom under the sink?? thats much closer to my grow room lol.

Ok andy don't fret. I have installed many of these. Are you just hooking it up to the kitchen sink? If so is you cold wter shut off valve 3/8's to the supply?. Biggest thing is remembering to instal the restrictor so you don't burn thru gallons of water when it cleans itself. If you are plumbing retarded and can't install it comfortably have a pro do it. 100 bucks ain't bad for the hour. I'm 130 an hour lol. Get on craigs list find some one who is licensed to install it. There is a lot of unemployed plumbers out right now. If your in idaho I have a friend that will install for you....

hehe,if i was in idaho,i too have a friend there.but i'm not.so i guess the plumber will make him some easy money.i will be on hid back watching.
yeah, its going on my kitcken sink.it has copper feed lines for the hot and cold, with shut offs for each.i have already made an appointment with a plumber this evening.so,the last dang trip to wanny world.lol
it sure gets old.i hope i can take this system with me when i leave here tho.guess that will be another plumbers job.heh.

Hey guys-

Hydro-Logic Stealth RO systems (NEW) is what I bought about a month ago,

it works great and I hooked it up myself (and I'm just a girl-lol). it was basically ready right out of the box and yes it has all fittings to hook up to a hose size fitting, they will send you the fittings you need if you want to hook up to a sink.

I did not want to hook up to my sink and so I asked around and found this system. very portable and the replacement filters are under 20 bucks each. but the replacement membrane is 82.95.

I bought the Stealth-RO100 for 224.95, they make a RO300 for 314.95.

Good Luck ANdy -

You are gonna love it. My water is so hard you can hurt yourself with it. My ph now is 6.3 and my solids are nearly non existent. The carrots and swiss chard love it too ;)

It is that simple!

I think if you google "hydro-logic stealth" you will get lot's of hits.

I bought mine locally, I first saw it in Gardener's Digest and took the magazine into the grow store and showed them and they said "hey we carry that!"

and I said " hey! I want it!" and I have been very happy with it!
