Hello all,

Forgive me if this question has been asked a thousand times. I did a bit of searching before posting, but never really found a definitive answer.

I've got two Power-Glo flourescent tubes. They are twenty watts each, and the box says that they are in the 18000k spectrum with an 80 LUX. Am I only kidding myself into thinking that I will be able to do much more than bring my seedlings into veg state, or might I be able use these to flower one female? Will these lights even get me far enough to sex the plants?

Any input on my lighting quandry would be appreciated.

IMO i wouldnt be growings 2-3 plants or anyplants with tubes there very wasteful u dont get much out of them... If u dont have a lot of tubes... CFL's are the way to go man check ebay out they have lights with aluminum fixtures that hold 2 25watts that puts out 4k lumens really nice and its under $50 bucks including shipping

I've added two 42 watters, at 2700 lumens each. I'm thinking now that I've gotten enough light.

cfl's are good for veg,for flowering go for a cheap hps system,do a good research and you'll surely find one at 100-120 with bulb. good luck.

Thats not completely true it just matter how much light your leaves are gettin if same lumens your gonna get same results just thing is cfls dont have the heat or the power usage as a hps cause with hps u gotta get venting system just for the light itself plus the heat its putting on your plants :hairpull: to me its just unneeded work there are some good journals of people just growing with cfls AND GROWING SOME KILL BUD

i know about cfl's results, ventilation isnt a big deal i have a 430 hps with just a 16''fan(50w) out and a smaller one in closet-my temps are arround 85 no specially venting system for the light and so happy for my 56000 lumens out of 1 bulb not 10,as for power usage of 1 hps..crumbs...

Yah, they like the addition of the CFL's... I got one of those light fixtures for outside flood lights, just the same as the motion detector lights, except without the motion detector. I hung them straight down from the ceiling of the cab in between my power-glo tubes.

Some of the very top leaves have responded by curling upwards, forming like a halph-tube. They are still nice and green, but i was wondering if this was an OK sign, or maybe i need to put a little more distance between them and the lights...

you really gotta do your research on these kinda things only reason i know of people using hps and other lights other then CFLs are because they can go through the top canopy where the leaves are much bigger so it can get down too the smaller leaves so i have cfl at the bottom of my plant too pointing at the lower part. It really depends plus hps cant grow a 2 foot plant with only 33watts ;) soon 2 be bigger here is a CFL light that would be good for flowering puts out 20k lumens with 3 bulbs so those people that say u need more then 6 bulbs of cfls too make a 18k is a lie and a half http://www.stealthhydroponics.com/product.php?xProd=120&xSec=3&jssCart=2941025cef1b768a7519e69e1c976cb5

man your right about using cfl's for plant's bottom, i personally think that cfl's are good as addition on a hps-it wasnt a flame-just my opinion. :48:

Man im not arguing but saying CFLs are only good for veg is just a lie... Since your gettin a brighter light out of HPS doesnt make it better yea it maybe closer too the color of the sun. But CFLs do perfectly fine for beginners espiaclly if u dont wanna lug around a heavy hps with all its parts cfls all u gotta do is screw in new light bulbs when there burnt out adjust when plants grow over light pretty simple plus it just so much easier 2 handle less weight less energy usage etc...
