I have 4 bubblicious and 4 norther flame just sprouting now. I plan on flowering them all at the same time, and not taking clones. I have on;y one area for veg and flower.

Id like to use Trillions of Atoms pollen collecting method if I get some males so I could collect pollen and seed the bottom of a select female or two so I can have a seed surplus for the next grow.

My question is how long do i leave the males in the area before collecting the pollen and killing them? Do I remove them as soon as I identify sex? If I do that will there be pollen to collect or do i have the let the male grow a little while?

any ideas on how i can do this with a one room setup?

not sure if you are able to or not but i put anymales i find ,on a kitchen windowsill or any windowsill and they carried on growing ok ,,,then u can catch any pollen well a way from your ladies and just pollenate the branches you want :peace:

... Perfect mell ! males will survive and flower under pretty poor conditions, IME.
you should definately segregate them soon after ID'ing them.. IMO.

Can you cut them down and stick them in a vase? Will they still flower enough to collect some pollen? I have some plants in an aero setup. I know I am going to have to cut them down because removing them from the now tangled root mess in my trays will be impossible.

i let the males flower for a little untill they start to form but dont let them go yellow or the pollen will fly. when there just started about a week or so into flowering i cut the top 4-5 nodes or more off the plant put the top into a cup off water on the other side of the house in a window it will continue to flower leave it there with tin foil undernieth the cup once you see pollen on the foil put it into a bag do not close it or it will mold let it dry a few days and shake the pollen out you dont need much at all use a q-tip of small brush to spread the pollen if you need to store it put it into the freezer

so what it sounds like is I could just throw them outside and leave them be until time to collect the pollen. works for me....thanks guys....and gals...lol

How do you tell when the pollen is ready to be taken?

I am afraid they won't live through the stress, not to mention I am only going to do a few branches so I don't need much.

ive never had a prob just cutting the tops off the male and putting it in just water it keeps flowering no prob;)

Yeah that is what I am going to do. They will not live through being ripped from the system.

after you put it in the cup, you have to continue it on 12/12 to keep it flowering though right?

I dont have another are to put him...

I would have to agree with this..its a plant..treat it like a rose flower it will live in water for a few weeks..be sure to remove from female room

i dont i just put it in front of a window to finish it should continue to flower
just wait about a week or two until the male is showing a good amount of sacks then cut the top off it should continue to flower when it starts to yellow and the sacks start to open put it into a bag dont close it or it will mold after a few days keep the top in the bag and flick the stem to shake out the pollen

I left a male I didn't want behind my TV where it would have had hardly any light and no water and I forgot about it and it was still looking perky, only a little stretched, after a week or 2 so on your window ledge will be fine, like melissa said :)

I would imagine that if you are living in the Northern Hemisphere that in winter months you can just keep the male in a natural light condition (window sill, balcony, etc.) because days are shorter, and nights are longer. You will have at least 12 / 12 light conditions, maybe 8 / 16.

summer winter it dont matter i leave it in the room untill it starts to have a couple of sacks at each node usually about 2 weeks in. then i take it across the house and just cut the top 7-8 nodes off the plant toss the rest of the plant out then trim off the side growth leaving the top 4-5 nodes put it in a cup of water and throw it in the window even in the summer it will continue to flower it usually sits in the cup for a week or two then i collect the pollen

old thread but thought i'd post here. seems to have been a dead thread for while anyway.
but i dig the whole stik a branch in water deal an put on window sill. and i can do this. only my 12 12 regimen the lites on is nite to mornin. and durri the day is when i have em in lites out to help wit heat issues.
and the sun shines durrin the day. will it still work if i throw it in window this mornin even tho it'll get more hours light than 12 or should i leave in dark 24 hrs til tomorrow sun up?
i talkin just to merge the 12 12 from nite to day lites on.
