Authorities have wiped out a large, sophisticated marijuana-growing operation in the Pike National Forest. More than 5,100 pot plants were found growing on Sugarloaf Mountain earlier this month. West Metro Drug Task Force members, aided by a Colorado Air National Guard helicopter, spent nearly 24 hours collecting and removing the marijuana, which weighed more than 2,000 pounds, officials said.
Authorities believe the growers were squatting on the mountainside while they tended to the plants. However, no one was arrested at the scene.
Agents estimate the street value of the confiscated marijuana at $2.5 million. Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Jacki Kelley said the marijuana would be burned.
Anyone with information about the operation is asked to contact the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

What another shame that the Gov won't bite and wait to harvest and then sell to help out the National Debt instead of destroying.....

These types of grows are ruining our natural resources. With all the waste and destruction these squatters leave behind. If they are gonna have mj illegal, I wish they would target these types and would leave the average backyard/indoor grower alone.

yep they are going to burn it 1 stick at a time for sure, as we all know how honest leo is. what is there motto? help thy self before we help others confiscated goods means it free to us all they have to do to put an end to this is legalize it then there would be no need to grow in our forest and parks and it takes money out of the gangs and the criminal element , I would much rather buy from a store that is legal and safe then to buy from someone who is dealing on the streets, legalize it and move on to other more important stuff like meth and herion and alcohol more people are killed by alcohol every day then any other drugs the numbers don't lie

Do not pity those who destroy for profit.

No matter what they are doing.

If the gov't would make it legal, then farmer could grow it on the fields the gov't pays then for to not grow. This would cause the illegal grower to leave the National and State forests alone, but no one in gov't is smart enough to see this. The gov't would save on subsidies(?) while increasing tax income and creating jobs. Don't believe the US gov't has the inteligents to see the truth.
