Ok I have a 10wx12Lx12h hopen for 12 plants and I am going to Fence it off with some Pallets around the sides so Peek A Doo Neighbors can't see the plants somewhat, and place Chicken wire around the whole top to the bottom and thought this would be a Good Idea, and this is what I was told by a dispensary and that was told by the Shireff's dept.
My Problem is Adobe, Clay that is sticky when wet and ground cracks when drying.
So how would I fix this problem of Adobe.?
I could go buy some sand and mix it together or should I just dig holes and use potting soil.?

clay soil are every poor in nutes. IMO you would be better off to bring in a soil mix that has the nutes your plant requires like subcool's or others mixes dig a hole at least 2' in dia and 2' deep that way the soil is good and broken up allowing roots to grow easily and water to be retained for the plants to use

I'm thinking bigger hole bigger plant. Plus I think you should go 3' deep. Then fill your hole with water and see how long it takes to drain. This will be useful later so that you don't under or over water. Also with that hard soil it may hold in worms to that area to aerate and leave nice castings. Maybe a 3or4 in. tin border around each plant to hold the worms in. I'm stoned flyinhigh, but I love caring for my ladies, and give them all the good Organic food and care that I can. Good luck and this is the best web site for MJ that I've found. Peace out

I have been gardening outdoors for years and it seems to me all you really need to do is add some sharp sand, composted manuer, and a descent black dirt. Till it in, plant, and mulch, that should do the trick.
Best of luck.

lol grow right in a bag of good dirt...guy at the shop told me thats the new rage...no pots no holes just a big bag of dirt..

...How about a 'raised bed', flyin'?..and a truck load of compost..;)

Diggin Holes sound more what I should do and that way I can space each plant and get some Good Soil to place into the Holes, but make the holes Big enough for a 5 Gal bucket size and I would feel better about that..

I did the Raise the bed thing with my Tomato's and those came out alright but the Roots couldn't go anywhere and the tomato's where so small, when they suppose to be the Beefy size.
Size was 9"l x 12'h x 16"w
that was a lot of bags of Potting soil I put in there, so I don't want to do that again Costly.

Hicks I'll check into the price of compost..

One of my mj gardens was 10'x18' last summer with 12 girls in it. If they were all sativas, it would have been very overcrowded. Choose some indicas and you can get 12 in your space. Remember, if you just add sand to clay, you get concrete when it is dry. You need compost and other goodies, like worm castings, perlite, manure, etc.

The only seeds I got are N.L.& P.P. strain and some Jack Heres and then there the Mexican seeds..

I am going to dig holes and add potting soil mix to each hole and go from there.

Those Mex seeds are most likely sativas...just so your prepared when spacing. I guess I'm lucky enough to have nice black dirt in my area, all I have to do is turn it up, add a few amendments to it and plant...I forget not everyone is blessed with this nice soil, as us folks here in the great lakes area.

I would get some promix and some good compost and worm castings. Some clay in the soil is fine and it has nutes and minerals stored in it and when it's mixed properly in with some amendments can be made to be a fine mj soil. Good luck with the grow peace out

I grow in a cage too. Not quite as small as what you are looking at tho. The Northern Lights are prolly gonna be managable. If you do go with planting in the ground, when you dig the holes and add soil, remember the roots will go into the clay. I also have clay like soil here and opt to grow in pots. I used some of the Smart Pots (cloth) last year and found the roots would go thru them to the below clay, they also held water well and the soil didnt heat up like plastic pots can. Also remember that the plants will only grow till they touch each other, like trees, plant with the Center of the plant in mind and space them so they will have the most room without touching. And...lol..and....be sure you make pathways. Another reason I like the pot method is they are Movable, I can harvest the ones I want and then move other plants to get better/more light.

I will add more as I think of it.....another caged grow....cool.

oh, and look into your local outdoor gardening/landscaping place for Organic Soil Mix, I got a pickup load (cubic yard) last year for like $50, and I got some sweet worm casting mix too for cheaper than bagged soil.

This is my first yr and if I got to cage it then so be it.
Diggin holes is going to be bigg enough for 5or 6 gal buckets and then alittle wider and deeper and I an Not going to use any pots, just the ground with and the soil I can find that my truck will hold..
I did the pot thing with tomato's and that just Burned up my root and the tomato's was small, the pots where to Hot.! I even took a 6 gal tree pot and put that into the ground and that was a mistake to because there wasn't enough room for the tomato's roots and the bucket got warm around the edges..
I am not to much worrie about the clay, I am more worrie about the Crackin of the ground and crackin the roots. I''l take my chance with a decent holes..

What yea mean Man that the MJ plant can't touch each other.????????
10x12 and here I was going to put like 9 plants in there about 2 or 3 feet apart, and yea I am think of making a path way right in the middle..
