New Veg-only Setup - Will It Work?

I'm considering a new veg-only setup. I'm just not sure if it will work well. I'll describe it and my plans for it, and please tell me what you think.

It's a small upstairs bathroom, 3.5 x 3.5 x 8. I would remove all appliances and paint the walls flat white. It has a ceiling exhaust fan (although I don't know the CFM), and it has one air/heat vent in the floor.

My plan would be to veg 3 plants in there under a 2' 8-lamp T5 fixture. The ceiling exhaust fan would be the only way to vent the room, and the air/heat vent in the floor would be the only source of fresh air (the bathroom door must stay closed to avoid disturbing flowering plants in an adjacent closet).

The air/heat vent in the floor would be passive some of the time, and active some of the time, depending on when the air conditioner / heater are running.

Would enough fresh air be pulled into the room when the air conditioner / heater are not running? Even when the heater is running, the temperature upstairs is not high.

So, what do you think?

yeah youll be fine, i just did some reconstructing on my veg and flower areas, i only have one room so i use the bulk of the room for flower with partitions with mylar on them around the flowering plants and a framed out closet for a good veg area, i added i wanna say its a 65cfm bath fan just like i have in my bathroom and it sucks the mylar sides in a good 2 to 3 inches, so if your bathfan is around 60-100cfm it will be good enough for vegging plants since its working great for me XD

The 2 8 bulbs t-5 are going to be tricky hang up. there overall length is 4'(48") and you say the room is 3.5'(42") x 3.5(42"). if needed you can always get a bigger exhaust fan. Other than that it sound like a great plan

I meant to say a single 2-foot 8-bulb fixture, hung right above the plants.

That give you 3000 lumens per square foot? A 3.5'x 3.5' area needs
36,750 lumens min. for the best growth.

I believe that the fan will be fine, but I think that you are going to be deficient in light. Eight 2' bulbs is 16000 lumens, 3.5 x 3.5 is 12.25 sq ft....

I wouldn't take out the vanity. It is great to have water in the grow room. Take out the stool, get a temporary plug for the hole. I have to say though that I can't quite figure out how a bathroom fit in a 3.5 x 3.5' space....

Well, the guy who built the house put a small vanity and a small toilet in what amounts to a closet...

You're right about the vanity...I'll keep it.

And I'll have to beef up the light quite a bit.

Considering I have that exact fixture in a 3x3 tent and veg many plants and it works just fine. If you are wall to wall in the room them no.


Three plants veg to alt nodes -yes


If you add more plants then add another fixture.


I veg many cuts at any given time under mine in Dixie cups and it works for what I do with sog.

If you are vegging for months and months... It will not be enough light if they are topped and branched out everywhere.

It's not the lumens it's the footprint in this case and flos don't have that great of intensity so the lumens fall off quickly.

If you see the way you grow after a while and find those three overflowing the fixture, add another one beside it.

Actually, I'm considering a California Light Works 200-watt LED VegMaster. I'm itching to take the LED plunge, if only for vegging. I'm committed to HPS for flowering.

Growing MJ is my only hobby, so I don't mind splurging a little...sometimes.

What would you suggest light-wise to veg 4 plants to a height of 18 inches in that bathroom?
